Marvin Sordell set to leave Watford for either Cardiff City or a Premier League side

Watford striker Marvin Sordell is set to leave the club, the Watford Observer understands.

The Hornets striker was made available for transfer by the club and looked set to join Cardiff City after their Championship rivals matched the £3m asking price.

We understand discussions with the player’s agent had began when a Premier League team – believed to be Fulham or Bolton – came in for the striker with a larger offer.

Sordell was subsequently pulled out of tonight’s match with Millwall at the request of Laurence Bassini.

So Bass is now picking the team!
All that rhetoric last week about not accepting poor offers and he goes and accepts a rubbish bid for our most valuable player.
Bass has NO money and will continue to bleed us dry.
Shame we can't free transfer the owner:)

I am not surprised he is going but the timing is rotten luck.

Even if we got a silly 5-6 million fee we wouldn't be able to spend it and have to look in the loan market which is always a risk.

I don't know how I'm supposed to support the team when it gets ripped apart in front of me, with all the underlying promise sent out to learn at other clubs. I will, though, but they're making it very hard for me...

3 million for England U21's first choice centre forward?

If that's true then we really are a joke.

What was all that talk by Dyche about the Connor Wickham price setting the bar for any deal?

Will be an absolute disgrace if the fee is less than £5m. An England under 21 international. What's the matter with the club? The negotiation is shockingly poor. If he is to leave anyone but Cardiff please. I'm sick to the back teeth of that ungrateful jock raping our club.

Looking at the team tonight, it looks exciting and with pace on both wings in Kaca (lets shorten that name stragiht away!) and Murray, Hogg back in midfield and a strong defence. Then you arrive at the 'strike' force. Hmmm. Distinctly lacking is an understatement. I sincerely hope we've got two strikers lined up with the Sordell money or we're going to be hard pushed to get a shot on target for the rest of this season let alone score goals. Deeney is a 5 goal a season man. Garner, I believe, deserves a run of a few games to see if he can rekindle some of the form he has shown in the past but he's a risk at best. I have faith we'll snap one up for a million from somewhere though. Simply got to really. Delighted to see Marriappa is playing. Unlike the big boys there's no way there will be a Hornets Helicopter post match to get him to Geordieland by 11!

Bassin has probably just found out we owe more money to somebody before the end of this season and tried to sell Mariappa first but now its Sordell.

I just disagree. He's so far from polished and so far from a guaranteed success. There will be add-ons too. Take the money and invest it wisely - but please do invest a million of it tonight! Another £3 million closer to being debt free and getting a new stand. I'm confident we can sign 10 goals from somewhere for a million.

Totally agree with LoveKeithDublin the going price for the 1st choice England U23 forward is way above 3 million especially to Cardiff. Mackay's timing is another stab in the back to the club. Relegation fight defintely on if he goes.

Personally I'm not so concerned to see "Marvellous" go... I'm not sure he has the application to make it to the top myself. If he were half as good as he seems to think he is, then £3M would be a steal. However, we used to have a promising goalie worth a similar amount a couple of years back and look what's happened to him (and us!). Jury still out for me on our owner, but this is a telling time. My biggest concern is who we're gonna replace "Marvellous" with. Please, not Big Chris "Iwillmiss"!!

Anyway, back to the football and discussing it with fellow followers of the club who use this forum for that purpose...

Cracking result! Great to see Murray on the scoresheet and Henderson missed a pen! About the perfect night really. Not that I have anything against Henderson. I'll never forget some of his whole hearted performances but it's always nice to see an ex-player miss one. Loach with the save - should do some good for his confidence. Now that we haven't replaced him with anyone maybe he'll recover some form for us. Fingers crossed.

9 points from the drop zone. Not far from relaxing a bit and being able to blood some more of our youth.

Come on you orns!

Unfortunately it looks like £3m rather than £4m. That is ridiculously cheap. Like others I am fed up with our players going for low transfer fees. Deeney will get a few goals, but we need a 20 a season player. They are not easy to find.

Buckler, having read these forums for a good year, or so you really do strike me as a complete and utter tool. Jimbuctu makes a comment and puts forward his spin on the transfer of Marvin and you come along with your aggressive tones, and giving it the "billy big nuts". Can you not accept that there are Watford supporters out there who have a different opinion than you, and who have a half glass full attitude? It seems not: a huge proportion of your posts are negative either towards Watford, or Scott Loach, Sean Dyche, or other players and very many of your posts come accross as being very aggressive to other users, normally just because someone holds a different opinion to you. Then you tend to gang up with anyone else who seems to have the same mentality as you. You strike me as a pathetic and pretty disgusting person who should maybe start treating others with a bit more respect.
As for the situation with Sordell, my opinion is that 3 million for a fairly lazy young player who is far from a finished article is a decent fee so long as there are decent enough add on's. He is not one of the leading players in the championship in my opinion, he is a bright star but he is not worth 5 or 7 mill up front. Its easy to look at these issues through yellow tinted spectacles. However what i will say is that if there arent add on's then i dont think its enough but we are watford fc and this is what we always do, we sell our best players and we develop others and youngsters. Sordell leaves and Deeney and Garner step up and score tonight and we move on to 33 points, 9 points clear of relegation in a season where steering clear of relegation is our ultimate goal. Those of you asking us to go out and spend at least a million tonight I have to say I disagree, it will no doubt be a panic buy so lets save our money until the summer and try and get a striker on loan, and hope Garner can kick on from tonight. In the meantime, Murray and kaca start tonight and by all accounts have a good game, its not all doom and gloom people.

Will everyone do the maths the bloke bought the club for 4 hundred grand and took on the debts 10 million. Add up when and how much he has to pay back the 10 million then ask yourselves about Graham, Buckley, the Ashley Yung money and now Sordell. basically the whole club and debts will cost him 400 grand. I dont like the fact that we have to sell our decent players but will feel less cheesed off if we can see sensible progress with the ground improvements as well as staying in the championship.

Clap off ! How can you possibly put a positive spin on this news! Going down!
Clap off? Who do you think you are you moron? I'll put my opinion on here the same as anyone else can. It's a 'forum'.

You're one of these angry people who's lives are so terrible and wives are such moaners they are bitter about the world yeah? Well I'm one of these people who's life is pretty good, business is a success and therefore understand the real world and have a bit of perspective. That's by-the-by though fella. What it boils down to is this: I'll have my opinion and respect your's too. I'm interested in what all our fans think and will listen and even take on board other views. I've seen your attacks on people on here and basically you're just unable to articulate your views without being abusive and aggressive. Maybe just get a divorce and cheer up?
Own business, nice house and family! Everything good in life apart from a little mosquito like you buzzing about! Clap off before I swat you little insect. Ps are you as successful in business as your chum Bassini?
Own business, nice house and family...selling homemade cakes and lemonade in the summer from mummy and daddy's garage doesn't really count!! Its getting late now so finish your cocoa and time for mummy to tuck you into bed. Nighty night Bucky baby!! Xx
Finally find the strength to crawl out from under that stone after I firmly showed everyone who's The BOSS! Haha the deadline for bottle jobs has finished now!

Personally I wish he had gone to another Championship club - because I had him to be Championship top scorer at 80 to 1!!

Can't believe we have only got 3-4 Million considering Bolton were willing to pay 7 Million for Wilfried Zaha who has only scored 5 goals this season! Now were left to get someone on loan! Thanks Bas!

soft touch in the transfer market???? - no not us........!!! 3 odd million for such a promising talent is a JOKE. What a laughing stock we are when it comes to selling our stars. We might produce some real talent thru the youth system and thru Harefield, but with a weak, naive and spineless team in charge of their contracts and negotiations we will always lose them on the cheap. Disgusted to the point of using my Saturdays for other things next year...
