Watford boss describes Fulham winger Alex Kacaniklic as 'an exciting prospect'

Watford boss Sean Dyche believes the Hornets have secured an ‘exciting prospect’ in Fulham loanee Alex Kacaniklic.

The 20-year-old signed on a six-month youth loan on Monday and went straight into the side which secured a 2-0 victory over Millwall the following day.

Kacaniklic played a key role in the Hornets win; supplying the pass for Troy Deeney’s opener before striking a second-half shot which was only parried away by David Forde, to allow Joe Garner to score.

It was the former Liverpool midfielder’s first senior match and Dyche was happy with his performance.

The Hornets boss said: “Alex has come straight in and it was his first professional start which is a very tough thing to do. But I thought he played well and made a very good pass for the first goal.”

Dyche revealed after completing the transfer he had been following the youngster’s progress for six months.

He had also spoken to former Watford manager Ray Lewington and Billy McKinlay, who are both on Fulham’s coaching staff, before completing the deal.

“They both think highly of him,” Dyche said.

“He is an exciting prospect who needs first-team football and we will help him do that. He has talent and pace and in the games I have seen him play, he can also finish as well.

“He is young and still learning but capable of progressing here.”

Dyche was not the only person to have sought the advice of former Watford manager Lewington.

Speaking to the club’s website, Kacaniklic said: “Ray told me what I should expect there so I’ll be ready for that.

“I have only heard positive things about the club, from Ray and other people I’ve spoken to. I’m really excited about this move because I see it as a big chance to get some first-team football and experience.”

Come on Watford fans. I haven't heard a single comment about how this lad did on Tuesday night. By the sounds of it, assisting in both goals, he must have been pleased with himself. Comments please.......

It's Dyche doing the usual thing of looking after and developing young players on loan .... and how trusted WFC are!! Blah .... blah... blah...

At the same time as pushing Witchelow out on loan again ..... and Bryan flavour of the last month with B Rodgers now nowhere to be seen...

Stroll on Saturday ..... and Sean's excuses!

Was at the Millwall game and very impressed with Alex K. Ran at players, went wide, well balanced intelligent winger. Delivered good crosses and tracked back well. Great team performance. Was in the home stand and 5 mins from the end was sitting alone!! Frozen but loved it...
Only negative was when big Chris came on - can't run or jump - didn't touch the ball. Need HH on loan?

Bit harsh on Sean. He played young Murray against Millwall and Whichelow got a run out against Spurs. I think Matty is only on a short loan so could be back to get more games with us this season. Kakaniklic was good on Tues. But Mapps was awesome. Keeping him for a bit longer is particularly good news.

Yawn, how boring. Whichelow sounds like he's getting himself sorted on the fitness side of things and 4 or 5 games at Wycombe will do him good. Bryan unfortunately isn't good enough it seems, if he doesn't get a new contract then good luck to him wherever he ends up.

blah blah blah , stop crying. SD is doing a good job and the right thing with our youngsters. he is doing exactly what the prem clubs do by loaning them out to lower league to gain invaluable first team experience.

Got to agree with SD on this, right now we need quality in certain areas and the loanees have generally provided that. A lot of youngsters out on loan getting first team experience is no bad thing and if it helps them to become first team players for us then fine. Clearly the likes of Murray are ready now and should be given limited exposure.

When someone talks about "an exciting prospect" it usually means they are not the finished article. Yes, I know we have to live within our means, and certainly the likes of Cleverley were good for us, but I do get fed up with developing young players for other teams to have the full benefit. Or perhaps it's me and this is a really good thing, and its Friday and I am looking forward to the weekend, just a few hours away now....
