Sean Dyche claims Watford may not necessarily sign a direct replacement for Marvin Sordell after Troy Deeney and Joe Garner scored against Millwall.
Sordell was pulled out of the game against the Lions and completed a move to Premier League Bolton Wanderers on transfer deadline day.
The Hornets instantly adapted to life without their top scorer and completed a 2-0 victory of Kenny Jackett’s side.
While Dyche admits it is likely the Hornets will look to bring a player in when the loan market opens, he said it may not be a striker.
The manager said: “We will be looking for a replacement but that is for the squad, not just in the striking department.
“It could be a wide player, it could be a striker. It is fair to say we like the demand of having four centre-forwards and of course we would like to score more goals – that is quite apparent.
“But the other night Troy Deeney and Joe Garner got an extra goal apiece which will do them no harm with their mentality.
“The only thing I would say is that football has a funny way of working out. When things change it is a great opportunity. Sometimes people see it as a problem and others as a challenge but it is a fantastic opportunity for other people to stand up and be counted for themselves, for the team and for the club.”
He continued: “It is not about Marvin now he is gone. It is about the team and players who went out there. I thought they delivered a very good performance in general.
“That is what we build on. Marvin has gone but he did a great job for this club and earned the club some money. Now it is the about the players moving forward and the possible people that we bring in to reinforce.”
Following his move to Bolton, in a deal which could rise to more than £3.5m, Sordell took to social networking site Twitter to thank everyone at Watford.
He tweeted: “Thank you everybody for the kind messages. Sad to be leaving Watford but it’s a new chapter in my career that I’m delighted to be starting.
“I loved every minute at the club and will never have a bad word to say about anybody there.
“I’d like to thank everybody at the club and in particular the manager, Sean Dyche, for guiding and helping me to improve as a player and a person.
“I wish the club all the best for the future.
“I’m very excited to have the opportunity to play for Bolton in the Premiership and I can’t wait to get started now.
“And I’d also like to thank the fans for all the support I’ve had over the years.
“You’ve been great to me and I loved scoring goals for you.”

Troy Deeny's finish was top class on Tuesday and Tommy Smith is part of QPR's 25 man squad and wont be going anywhere. Loach also had a decent game on Tuesday
Do people not get bored coming on here and slating Watford players?

Its a fact that Troy has played a number of games for us and not scored many, and that until a week ago Joe didn't even make the bench. Its great that both scored on Tuesday, and i hope its the start of a great run in front of goal, but I feel we are exposed relying on just those 2 with only big Chris as back up. We need another option even if we give Joe and Troy first chance to nail down their places.

We DO need an additional option upfront. The fact that both T&J scored on Tuesday doesn't change this. You can't change transfer strategy on the basis of one match ! Lets get a decent loanee in (Weimann?), start with T&J and if the goals dry up, or one is injured, we have a ready made option on the bench. We really don't want to wait until all the good loanees have gone and end up relying on big Chris to bang in the goals
