Watford Ladies' first-team coach Jackie Bushall is hoping for a post-Easter resurrection when the Golden Girls return to action against Millwall Lionesses on Sunday.

John Salomon’s side were beaten 3-0 by Reading Women in their last outing but have since enjoyed a 17-day break to prepare for the visit of the Lions to Broadwater.

It has been a tough start to the new season for Watford, who have lost each of their first three Women’s Super League 2 fixtures. But Bushall believes the Easter break came at a good time for the Lady Hornets.

She explained: “We had quite a tough first part of the season with four games close together.

“The Easter break has given us a little bit of time to recuperate, to build in some additional fitness work and work on the technical outcomes that we’ve seen from those games. We tried a new formation against Reading and it worked well in stages.

“With the longer time in between the Reading and Millwall games it’s given us a chance to refocus players, look at the strategy that we’re going to try and implement for the rest of the season and to build on that.”

Watford and Millwall have met on four occasions in the last 12 months with the two sides separated by a single goal at most.

And Bushall expects more of the same ahead of the latest instalment as the fifth-placed Lionesses visit the home of Berkhamsted.

She said: “This will be a decent test for us because I think we’re quite well matched, so it should be a really good close game.

“They have got an attacking threat and we do need to be wary of their key players. However I think if we play to our strengths, we’ll be able to get a result.

“We’ve been getting a lot of good forward play recently and now we need to start turning that into goals.”

Bushall continued: “There’s going to be a number of teams we’ll be really competitive against. We have got to make those games count.

“The team spirit is very good, we’ve got just got to put the positives into practice when we play against Millwall this coming Sunday.”
