WATFORD Ladies Under-16 Hornets won the Hertfordshire County Cup in style with a 6-1 victory over Harvesters to make up for the disappointment of falling short in the final last year.

The Golden Girls were determined to make amends and showed their intent when Linda Afuakwah opened the scoring after skipping past two defenders in the final at Letchworth’s County Ground.

Julia Draper added a second in the opening ten minutes of the second half but Harvesters halved the deficit soon after. However, that only served to re-energise the Golden Girls and they took the game by the scruff of the neck scoring four goals in 15 minutes – with an Afuakwah header, then a close-range shot from Rebecca Evans before further strikes from Alisha Brayer and Liv Syson rounded off an impressive display.

But there was disappointment for the Under-14 Hornets who fell just short of a place in this weekend's County Cup final against club-mates Watford Under-14 Harts, going down 2-0 to Garston Ladies Pumas.

Elsewhere, Watford Ladies Youth Development Squad maintained their lead at the top of the Greater London Women’s League after Aimee Durn’s goal gave them a 1-0 home win against Regents Park Rangers.

Chiara Lape, Casey Evans and Bliss Murray were on target as the Under-12 Hornets drew 3-3 with Charlton in the Capital Girls' League.

In the Herts Girls Partnership League, Mikhela Treon scored the Under-16 Wasps’ consolation in a 5-1 defeat at St Albans City Youth North. There were also defeats for the Under-18 Wasps at Hemel Hempstead and the Under-16 Harts against Bishop’s Stortford.

The Under-14 Harts turned in a strong defensive performance against free-scoring league leaders Tottenham and were unlucky to concede a flurry of late goals in a 6-1 defeat. Jemimah Rose netted Watford’s consolation.
