Winger Katie Stanley has become Watford Ladies’ sixth signing of the day.

The 26-year-old’s capture completes a busy day at the office for the Golden Girls who have also signed three goalkeepers in the shape of Sophie Cheadle from QPR, Lucy Gillett from American college and Icelandic football and Republic of Ireland Under-19 keeper Caoimhe O’Reilly, as well as midfielders Georgia Miller, from West Ham, and Natalie Richardson, from QPR.

Stanley’s arrival will add some experience to the Watford squad, who begin their Women’s Super League 2 season at London Bees tomorrow evening.

She was almost an ever-present for Oxford United Women over the last two seasons in WSL2, appearing in 34 out of 36 games, with only one of those being from the bench. She also proved to be a threat in front of goal in the last campaign, netting four times as she played a big part in helping her side to a sixth-placed finish.

She said: “I’m an attack-minded player. I like to get forward and try to create chances in the final third. Luckily being an oldie means you bring a bit of experience as well, so hopefully I can bring that to the squad this year.”

The new addition has enjoyed some success at the Golden Girls’ Berkhamsted ground previously, getting the equalising goal in last season’s 3-2 win for the away side.

But, having decided to make the move to the Lady Hornets recently, Stanley has been impressed with what she’s seen so far.

“The training has been great and is always very attacking which I really like. I can’t wait for the season to start now and I’m confident that it will be a good one.”
