Watford will use training this week to ensure they stop defending too deep

Gianfranco Zola says the coaching staff will be using training this week to ensure Watford do not defend too deep in the future.
The Hornets have lost their last two games due to injury-time goals from inside the box and Zola believes his team have not been defending high enough up the pitch in the closing stages of matches.
Zola said: “It was a shot which was deflected and it went into Rhodes feet and he shot through the legs of Hoban but towards the end, probably because it was the third game in a week, we defended too deep and that is dangerous.
“That is the issue I am going to be addressing in the week and it is something that we need to address. Even if we are strong defensively, you can’t afford to defend in your own box in this league.”
Zola continued: "I didn’t see them scoring to be honest, unless it was a free kick or corner kick. That goal came out of the blue; it was a deflected shot from distance which landed at the striker’s feet and then he shot through the defender’s legs.
"I am not going to say we were unlucky in a million years because everyone creates their own luck but I am certainly not going to crucify the team because they played well and we will learn a lot."
Watford conceded ten goals in their first five games this season - although that did include the 5-1 loss at Derby County – whereas in the last five matches the Hornets have let in six goals despite receiving four red cards during those games.
Zola said: “We are certainly defending much better now than we were at the beginning of the season but now we need to get back some freshness in the final 20 metres of the pitch which we didn’t have in the Blackburn game.”
On Saturday, Zola handed Connor Smith his first start and Jean-Alain Fanchone his full debut.
Zola said: “Until towards the end where he lost the energy in his legs, I thought Fanchone did ok and played a decent game.
“It was a decent performance from him and also Connor Smith did very well in a difficult game. “ The Hornets head coach confirmed Almen Abdi missed the Blackburn Rovers contest due to a back problem.
