Watford midfielder Stephen McGinn is currently on trial at Coventry City.

McGinn has not played for the Hornets first team since February 2011 due to a serious knee injury and new head coach Gianfranco Zola is keen for the Scot to secure game time out on loan.

Speaking two weeks ago, Zola said: "I’m very pleased with him. He’s been training excellently, his attitude is magnificent and it’s just a pity that right now there’s not an opportunity for me to give him a game.

"I spoke to him and obviously if we can find a way where he can go for a while and play some games it will be ideal for him, it will be a lot of benefit for him. But as far as I’m concerned, I’m happy with him, he’s a quality player and he just needs to play."

McGinn, who joined from St Mirren in January 2010, has scored twice in 42 appearances for Watford and began his return to first-team action with a handful of appearances for the Reserves towards the end of last season.

The 23-year-old signed a new one-year contract in the summer, and the Hornets have the option of activating a second year.

McGinn impressed during yesterday's game where a Coventry XI lost 2-1 to Leeds United's Development Squad.
