Keith Hill describes Watford as the best team Barnsley have faced and believes Hornets could go up this season

Barnsley manager Keith Hill believes Watford could achieve promotion this season and described today’s 4-1 victory as the best display this season.
Goals from Troy Deeney (2), Mark Yeates and Matej Vydra meant Watford were 4-0 up before a Joel Ekstrand error handed Barnsley a consolation in injury time.
When asked if he thought Watford could secure promotion this season, Hill replied: “There’s a possibility. That’s the best performance I’ve seen from an opposition team against us. I thought they were excellent in every department.”
On his own team’s performance, he added: “There was nothing even about it. We rode our luck with respect to the first half. We made some horrendous decisions in and out of possession. The best team won and I’ve got to congratulate Gianfranco because I think he’s got an excellent side.
“We were very susceptible. We looked weak against the opposition so I don’t think we were ever in the game. Individually and collectively, we weren’t cohesive today, with and without the ball.”

Some great performances from us and, at the moment, the scorers and playmakers are attracting the headlines but I am really impressed with Tommie Hoban at the back. Not one foot wrong yesterday.

I think your being a bit harsh on your own team Keith !

Also to those who slated the attendence we would have been around the thirteen thousand mark if more than 100 Barnsley fans showed up.
Genuinely feel sorry for Barnsley, good team who play good football, yet are in a relegation battle. Reminds me of us a couple of years ago!

It will be interesting to see if those say away fans come out to play if we pull a big one out of the hat today or if it is genuinely a sign of the tough times that we are in.

Having said that when we are playing Man Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool next year a lot more people will be prepared to go through 'that hassle' !!

I think the attendence isn't helped by the hassle involved in getting a ticket for non season ticket holders. The idea to move the family section to the Lower Rous and having the home section of the Vicarage Road end a 'pay on the day' next season is a good one.

Barnsley were good.. Boy did we need the second goal...

I have watched The 'Orns since I was 7 (gap in the middle for a while but now 61) and I have never seen a better side than Saturday and certainly never seen a stronger bench. Zola is doing a great job and hearing the Rookery sing his name for the first time was GREAT. How about "Franco Zola's yellow armani!"

Surprised about that statement! We were not bad but certainly we need to improve. I thought defensively we rode our luck. Almunia made some great saves not to mention hobans goalline clearance! Forrestieri was annoying with his theatrics, he could be so much better if he was more honest and deeney doesn't look that comfortable trying to go round players although his two goals were really well taken. The game really changed after the second goal. A moment of pure inspiration from yeates when Barnsley were by far the better team and we couldn't keep possession and were being pegged back in our own half. Thought we looked great with geijo and vydra up front, would love to see more of those two. Thought cassetti looked really good too and was pleased with battochio. It was good seeing mujanji bia on the bench, he will make an impact this month like anya did last month. And also credit to chalobah who I think was great in the first half but took a knock before half time so kinda faded, hence the sub for battochio. I would be worried about chalobah going back to Chelsea in January but with Abdi and Eustace coming back, plus yeates good form and the emergence of battochio we could and should be picking up many points at a time of year when clubs with smaller squads will struggle. As a side note I would like to see Leo belleck get a run in the side, although don't know who he would dislodge with all the goals we are scoring at the moment! We need to tighten up the back and not give the ball away in the middle of the park against hull or we could be punished, however with our attacking threat I don't fear any team in the league! Never thought I would ever say that about Watford! Boy do I love the pozzos, Zola and the golden boys! Automatic promotion anyone?!
Keith realized it was a tough trip to Watford and worked his Cojones off all week instilling his plan into the Barnsley players, Barnsley were ultimately undone by Watford's quality, and Zola's nouse this is why he made the statement! Accept it with grace.
When the day arrives we play in the big time, Zola would do well to have an assistant manager like Keith Hill, and he is British.
Mourinho and Steve Clarke were a good example of that type of partnership and looked what they achieved.
On Chelsea; Abramovitch must regret the day Jose left Chelsea with the dross managament they now have.
My wife is a Chelsea fan and she is really suffering, me all I can do is gloat, she is one unhappy Bunny!

One paper made Almunia man of the match, I think we have played better this season and lost.
Great FA cup draw but let's keep our minds focused on the league. COYH

Good point, 26 for ticket plus pound booking fee 5 pound for jerk chicken chips and coke. 7 pound parking plus a fiver on fuel. Not the cheapest day out but at least we were entertained!
Btw I stil think there's a bit of underlying negativity going on here. We were well worth our four goals, I don't feel sorry for them either, I'm only saddidn't we didn't get five.
We want our team to be ruthless? So we as fans should be to.

Game could quite easily have ended 7-3. Yes, let's be ruthless, but win with class.
I can't say I'm sorry when we thrash teams, I quite like it!
Zola brings the class, I'll bring the crass!

I love FF but he has to stop going over. I think referees are ignoring any foul on him because the word has gone round I don't think he would have been awarded the penalty that Vydra got because of that. He needs to have a couple of games where he gets knocked over and gets straight back up again with no histrionics and refs will change. I have watched The 'Orns since I was 7 (gap in the middle for a while but now 61) and I have never seen a better side than Saturday and certainly never seen a stronger bench. Looked like we're gonna stick 4/5 passed teams for most of the season.....its now clicking into place. We should all be Championship experts with the amount of time WFC has spent there....teams are rarely able to keep possession - period....we should all know that !....Championship is awful stuff most of the time (have you tried watching it on Sky ?).....Hull will give away the ball the same as the others have & always will do in this league.....its generally about who doesnt give it away the most, rather than who can keep hold of it (ie who makes the less mistakes) Hope thats cleared it up ! lol
