Troy Deeney takes to Twitter to confirm contract talks with Watford

Picture: Holly Cant Picture: Holly Cant

Troy Deeney has confirmed his representatives are in talks with Watford over a new contract.

The striker's current deal expires in the summer and the 24-year-old has received criticism on micro blogging site Twitter from some fans.

The Watford Observer reported on Friday talks between Deeney and the club had started and the former Aston Villa trainee confirmed that was the case this afternoon.

Deeney tweeted: "For those that have been asking about the contract situation, my representatives and Watford are talking. Hope that puts to bed any rumours."

Deeney has scored ten goals in 21 appearances for Watford since his return to the team in September following his two-and-a-half month prison sentence for affray.

No bad criticism from me Troy! True fans of WFC appreciate the hard graft you put into a game and thank you for knuckling down and scoring goals!
I hope you read this Troy and decide to stay as we are a club going places and I would love you to be part of this journey!

It is more than time that the Watford Observer dropped Troy's unfortunate history with which we are all familiar. In future could they please concentrate on him as a very good footballer who we want to retain as as an essential part of our strike force.

Not the most skilful player ever to grace the yellow shirt but you stuck with it when DG & MS were first choice and Watford FC have supported you through thick and thin. So Troy just sign on the dotted line and carry on doing the business?

As well as he has done with us I can't see any big teams trying to sign him.

Troy is more than a key player for us, he also contributes alot through his banter and squad togetherness, sometimes not recognised.

Who else would post the sleepy cam photos on twitter on away days and criticise the other players dress sense.

I am sure he will sign once it it right for both parties. With all respect I do not think he is ready to step up to a current Premiership club and we are now one of the top Championship sides looking to go places.

I don't know if any of you use the football forums, but I've heard for the 2nd time this week that we won't be signing Vydra unless we get promoted. If we don't he goes back as the Pozzos rate him highly and current form must come in to it. I hope theses rumours are wrong he reminds of Mo Johnstone, quick, sharp and deadly one on one

Bringe says...
5:23pm Wed 16 Jan 13

He's as strong as an Ox and not that we are there but he could feasibly play a part in the PL on those occasions that brute force is required but mostly a year or two on his contract will keep bids sensible as he would walk into many Championship teams. We stood by him so I think Troy owes us that much.

Well we'd best get promoted then.

There is no shame in him wanting to play at the highest level and he doesn't have to move clubs to do it.

Best not get too attached, we are destined to loose many marquee players at the top of their game ... but at least we'll get to watch them perform in yellow.

As has been said before, the Pozzo's will laugh at any offers below ten million for Vydra---he has potential for taking Watford into the Premiership, and future potential for Udinese. unless they receive a ludicrously high offer he will be here 'till end of season.

No they are on the rumour sites. Where a lot of people make it up as they go along.
I think there's a bit of hysteria mounting about Vydra. If the Pozzos want us up in the Prem, I'd be surprised if they shot themselves in the foot.
As for the post that talks of Troys lack of skill, obviously does not watch the game. He is also a tireless and selfless worker for the team.

He has been fantastic this season for us and has surpassed my expectations massively. In the summer I was not bothered about him coming back but I'm glad he did and will eat humble pie. I'm not sure he can cut it in the premiership but I sure believe he thinks he can and I would love him to sign a new contract and potentially have that opportunity in the next season or two to prove me wrong. From everything I've seen/read/heard about him off the pitch I believe he is great for the squad as a whole, great for morale and a real leader and a role model for young strikers like Assombalonga. Fair play to him too for keeping motivated and waiting for his chance whilst Mackay kept sticking him out on the wing which clearly is not his best position! Please sign Troy! People giving him stick (on here, or on twitter, facebook whatever) for taking his time on what is a big decision really are utter utter numptys.

I for one personally love the Twitter posts, he also responds & retweets on a regular basis. My boy was a Matchday Mascot recently & Troy took the time out to make it really special for him even giving him an extra signed shirt to take home. He will sign I'm pretty certain of that but is making sure the deal is right for all parties. He has a young family to provide for, wouldn't we all try to get the best deal we could? I sure he is not asking for a Kings ransom. His hardworking displays on the pitch should tell you everything you need to know, by the way he can actually play abit too.

Time for Troy to sign and stay with a club where he will get regular football, and a club that are fully behind him. With us he will get Premier league experience very soon and we will make him into a player who can reach his true potential. He does not owe us for keeping his contract in place when he was otherwise disposed, but he knows that at WFC you get mutual loyalty which is rare to find in football.

I felt sorry for Deeney when he first came here, he wasn't getting a lot of play time, plenty of fans doubted he could cut Championship football and he didn't really look the finished article back then. After his sentence I admit I wasn't that fussed but as I have said before, I was given a second chance in life and I am very glad that he has as well - everyone deserves a chance. Since his return he looks stronger and I feel that he has a point to prove, it's as if he is a different man, more determined and fully aware of the fortunate lifestyle that he has. Simply put, he appreciates the club sticking with him and I think that loyalty will be repaid. Good luck Troy for the rest of the season and beyond.

Some lower life Prem sides still think they can pinch a quality Watford player for peanuts!... Well they clearly unaware of our new found situation! Honestly.... Saints or Hammers bid £3M!! Never going for that sum! Maybe its all hype just to try and de rail our season! The best thing we can all do is turn up to the Vic and lend our support by getting behind the team! Had a read of the posts.

Not gettin involved with the arguments.

As for Troy signing. Hopefully he does. He is more than just a big lump who runs around the pitchand anyone who see's his Twitter posts will know what i mean. He is central to the moral in the changing room.

If however he does not sign or leaves, then so be it.

With the Pozzo family in charge we can replace with the same if not more quality.

One last comment. How nice is it that we are not talking or worrying about which big name player is leaving to ensure the club can run untill the summer!

It may explain my new relaxed, laid back approach!

His agent will advise him on what he could get elsewhere. Like most footballers he will look at clubs from the perspective of a contractor -'are the rewards worth staying or moving on' very different from fans perspective. No doubt WFC will also approach it in terms of the value they consider Deeney provides compared to other players. I think it is a bit naive to think that the clubs reaction to his imprisonment would have a major impact if he has the chance of a significantly better financial reward elsewhere. As we know many players move and end up not playing but earning more money. so like all contract decisions it will be primarily about reward, then about playing potential.

He's changed position to plumber. Probably the upper rous think Vydra will be better served sorting out that dripping tap instead of sorting out Goals. Might also be mistaken national identity, Vydra being Czech and not Polish!

Sadly, on this I do know something. If there is going to be unreserved seating it will probably be in the Vic Rd end, where family's are now. Family's to be expelled to Thorpe Park on Saturdays rightly making way for the new noisy peaceful hooligans!
Now that should really upset a few..lol

In Pozzo's and Zola we trust.

Obviously I am the manager of this club and I am delighted because Fernando is a good player and he has proven that he can be such an important player.

"I am very happy to have him for a long spell and we are looking forward to working to improve him and the squad."

Zola added: "We are working on another few deals, to make sure this team has got a future. Don't ask me who they are because I'm not going to tell you, but we are working on things."

There's a precedent been set on third party involvement on transfer deals. West Ham and QPR. both got fined, neither a point deduction.
I'm sure Scott Duxberry being the Lawyer he is will point to this if need be.
Having said that will be glad when case is concluded, Spas is in jail or propping up the new East stand.
