Watford boss Gianfranco Zola pleased with comments by Matej Vydra's agent

Gianfranco Zola says claims by Matej Vydra's agent that the striker is "very likely" to sign for Watford permanently is good news for everyone associated with the club.
Vydra has scored 16 goals in 23 league appearances since he joined the Golden Boys on loan from Udinese in the summer, netting eight times in his last five outings in the Championship.
This has resulted in interest from Premier League clubs and Vydra’s agent claims one of those teams is in the top six of the Premier League – believed to be Tottenham Hotspur.
Vydra’s agent Ondrej Chovanec seemed to make contradictory comments regarding the player’s future in an interview with Sky Sports this week.
Chovanec said he would not be making a rash decision regarding Vydra's future but then added it was "very likely" the striker would be joining Watford permanently in January.
Zola told the Watford Observer: "I think it is good news for all the supporters of Watford. We have a young, talented player who is doing very well for this club and a lot of teams want him. Some are Premier League clubs but the player wants to stay here and is talking about staying at this club. It is great news for all of us.
"We work hard to make things good for the players and we take a lot of pleasure from indications like this."
Vydra burst on to the Czech football scene in January 2010 when he signed for Banik Ostrava from Jihlava at the age of 17.
He was only at the club six months but his performances resulted in the forward earning the Czech Revelation of the Year award and a multi-million pound move to Udinese.
Vydra only made a handful of appearances during his first year in Italy and then suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury early into his loan spell at Club Brugge in Belgium last season.
However, the striker’s displays for Watford earned his first call-up to the full Czech Republic squad in August and he has since gone on to play three times for his country.
Zola said: "When Matej came over here in the beginning, we knew he was a very good finisher. We knew that straight away. But now he has become more of a complete player because he helps the team in the build-up, he helps the team defensively and he has an excellent understanding with Troy Deeney."
When asked if he believes Vydra could make an impact at Premier League level, Zola replied: "What he is doing right now is not a common thing.
"Certainly he is doing very well but it is the work of the team which has allowed him to be in the position to score, I think.
"Everyone is working hard for each other and Matej is the one who is scoring a lot of goals. But Troy scored six or seven goals in a row recently and we need to keep in mind that this is team work and Matej is doing exceptionally well but it is because everybody is working hard to make sure he scores the goals," the Hornets head coach added.

If he's 2 years into his Udinese contract and we know Pozzos like to sign young players on long-term contracts, he must have 2-3 years left. In that case it would take a large bid to prize him from Pozzos clutches other than selling to Watford. Does anyone actually know how long MV has left on his current contract?

Pleased with zolas comments, but would rather him just tell us vydra has signed! The suspense is killing me! Famn pozzos, terrible owners! The worst we have ever had! Bring back bas, there would be no vydra and deeney would have been sold for a hundred grand by now!

The hold up will be one of contract length, wage level and other clauses - as it always is! The fact that he's already contracted within the group is largely irrelevant in terms of expediency.

Perhaps the Pozzos want him on the same five and a half years as Fessi but his agent wants it shortened to maximise the chance of future signing on fees with other clubs?! Who knows. Confident he'll sign eventually... and I'm very hopeful of a mega January 31st. My refresh button won't know what's hit it.

It's called paperwork and translation

No top team is going to pay 15-20 million for a young lad who is unproven in any top league...Yes he is good and we all think he will make it. Contracts mean nothing nowdays really so if he signs a five year deal so what...any top team that wants him will pay what they need to pay. Translation is a massive thing getting over what they want and mean and what the club also want and mean. You translate some of the storys from his agent in his native language and is is confusing to say the least.

Think spurs would only want him for backup and won't be wiiling to pay anything like the unofficial price of £10m. Matty's agent knows he needs to crack the Premiership before the really big offers come in. Mind You a couple of hattricks sgainst Forest and Bristol then someone might be willing to take the risk.

Agree that signing the contract doesn't really mean that much, he'll go in the summer if someone's prepared to splash the cash.
Not sure about the translation thing. Money speaks loud and clear in any language and currency converter can do the maths.

AND, he/they would also be leaving their options open should Watford get promoted. The decision would then be a strategic one as he would need to be paid whatever he would achieve at Fulham or Wigan (which would the sort of club he'd eventually go to despite all this talk about Spurs, etc).

I think its only fair to remember we are one of 3 teams, its not just about us.We have been lucky to have gained such brilliant owners. There was no chance of obtaining hardly any of the quality loaned players under past owners.I believe Matej will be given a 5 year contract shortly, this will cement his future pluse insure getting a true price transfer as and when all parties are happy. But for the next season or two lets enjoy our steady progress.
There is bound to be more signings.Happy days.
