Watford to invade Birmingham City's nest with around 1,800 Hornets

Watford Observer: Picture: Holly Cant Picture: Holly Cant

Watford have already sold almost 1,800 tickets for this weekend's trip to Birmingham City.

The club are able to sell around 400 more advanced tickets and the rest of the away capacity, which is 2,500, will consist of 'pay-on-the-day' sales at the turnstiles.

This weekend an adult ticket at Birmingham's St Andrew's stadium is £18, seniors and students is £12, 16-18 year olds is £7 and under-16s is £1.

Watford's ticket office will be selling tickets over the phone on 0844 856 1881 and online here until 4pm on Wednesday and The Hornets Shop until 5.30pm on Thursday.

Just bought two for me and the Mrs. We seem to be building our away support by a huge percentage but still struggling to get over 12500 at home.
Brum's capacity is 30000 so cant understand why we are capped at 2700 inc pay on the day - think we could take more.
Anyway, here's to three points followed by a darn good curry in a proper balti house

We do have far better away support than home support, far, far better. We won't have decent home support until the ground is finished and we are in the Premier League. When are all of the ground improvements including the new East Stand due to be completed?

Great to see big number's going away from home again.

I see two reason's for the big increase in number's going to away game's.

1- The team is winning and playing the football that we can only dream of. At Derby at the start of the season we had well under 1,000 fan's there. For a similar journey to Nottingham we had nearly 2,000. That's down to how the team have come together and are winning and winning well.

2- The atmosphere. Having done at least half the away game's this season I would say the atmosphere was 10 x as good as the atmosphere at home (bar the Derby game).

The Best atmosphere i have experienced this season was at Huddersfield. One of the furthest away game's we will play. We had around 500 there but the noise was incrediable and lasted 95 minute's.

Why?

UN-RESERVED SEATING!

You turn up and sit with your mate's knowing that someone who run's the local libary during the week will not come and sit in the middle of you and keep tellin you to sssssh!

That is the main problem at Vicarage Road. The seating plan has gone array. Season ticket's are jumbled up with over 90's who in turn are jumbled up with 18 year old loud mouth's who want to sing but they are jumbled in with familie's with 4 year old's who you cant sing and swear in front of. This system jus does not work.

All of those group's are needed by the club but there really does need to be some seating order aranged where all the singer's and noise maker's are put together. The familie's need to be put together.

Un-Reserved seating in an area of the ground, preferably Vicarage Road end next to the away fan's so they can bounce of each other is a must.

When the new east stand is built hopefully that will be cheap, pay on the day terracing.

We saw what 2,000 Palace fan's did for their team. We need to do the same aand turn Vicarage Road into a fortress.

I read that the away fans capacity for st andrews was 3500 so the above figures dont make sense-
would be a real statement to the Pozos for us to bring that number.

So all fans, grab a friend, a granny even and make the journey to that horrible town.

Enjoy the curry Exeter!

Fingers crossed. Would they not want to wait until the attendances are steady over a few seasons? Wouldn't want to throw up a new stand only for us to be relegated and attendances drop again.

LD that game against Hull summed it up when we sat in the Vicarage Road end. Everytime we stood up, shouted, sung, we were looked at like the village lepar's!

They deffinatly need to be moved to the Rous stand or Rookery. Or have half the Rookery for non singing and famalie's and the other half for the rest of the singer's. Need's segregating so everyone can get what they come for.

I've spent the last few days reading all of the posts about the lack of noise on Friday and most of the home games. One thing that nobody has mentioned (apologies if you have and I missed it) was if watching on TV or listening on radio or via website the away fans will always sound louder, as the TV cameras are almost next to the away fans and a long way from the Rookery. However that doesn't excuse the lack of volume on a consistent basis from our own fans. I sit, or rather stand in the back row of the Rookery with me being 55, a few guys one side who are in their 60's and a group of lads the other side who are in their early 20's as is my daughter who I've brought since she was 11. We've all been in the same seats for at least 8 years now and we get on great and all sing very loudly so age has no bearing on it. I love the mix of ages and really look forward to seeing them all each week.

Strangely enough I thought Friday was one of the loudest and most consistent singing (mainly first half) that I've heard in the Rookery this season, however once again it's never loud enough or sustained for long enough. I go to many of the away games and can only echo what others have said about the difference in atmosphere but to me it always has been throughout my 40 years of following. It is hard to judge when you're right at the back as when any singing starts it always sound quite loud from there.

I do strongly agree with those who say we should pack the Vic Road end with our most voiciferous fans reagrdless of age, the away fans always get away lightly when it comes to making a noise. Funny how it's always louder in night games, I assume people lose their inhibitions a bit more when sitting in the dark.

Agreed for singing and atmosphere we need unreserved seating we used to at least make a noise when we were all in the Vicarage Road end, it was a smaller stand and people all gravitated towards the middle to suport vocally, it was only the added facilities in the Rookery that saw us all have to move.

In terms of increasing attendances I think Scott Duxberrys shout of cash on the day turnstiles is one that would see significant "floating" support re-engage with the club and that would be no bad thing.

If we had a new stand and therefore extra capacity it would make it easier for the club to introduce more community support initiatives in terms of tickets for schools thus building the future support (and also keeping the little blighters a long way away from me :-)

Still nothing is going to increase attendances like a successful side and we're doing alright on that front at the moment

The club can't really do anything about increasing the atmosphere at the vic till next season as its all about allocation!
The club need to designate areas of the stadium that are vocal zones and this could be the centre to back 2,000 seats of the rookery, the top middle 1,000 seats in the rous stand and the vic road end of circa 2,000!! This gives us 5,000 seats that signing is accepted and appreciated! Any fans that just want to sit and occasionally clap can sit anyware else! Kids and families in lower rous!
All fans can then choose to buy there season ticket in the area they then wish to support! And pay on the day or ticket buyers of single games can choose from there too!
And if you are sat in a seat that's not classed as vocal seat you can still sing as that's down to the individual!
This is the only way we will improve the atmosphere BUT we all have to be committed to do our bit irrespective of age! Anyway all kids under 14 in my opinion should be in lower rous and away from any foul language!

But the fault there is its the family end. I don't think family's should be next to away fans and the abuse. So I agree, but only if kids are elsewhere.
not 100% sure but i think they dont sell alcohol in the vic road end either.that was the only reason me and my mate didnt stay there, but that was a few seasons back!.
Can't recall where I heard it now, but apparently there is no hot running water in the Vicarage Road end lol

Need to move anyway (from the hospital) maybe nearer Harrow or Northwood where there's more population - Emirates style ??? with 40 to 50k every home game

I have 4 season tickets in the Vic end as it is the family Section, the club say they will be moving us to the lower rous next season which I think is a great idea as the kids won't here the the abuse from the away fans ie, Millwall and Leicester, and then it's free for the Watford fans to sing their hearts out, I wish I could stay but the wife won't let me! 1,800 weird looking Hornet fans you mean..i'm sorry but has anyone noticed we must have the ugliest away following in the league. I purposely have a look behind me and scan what could be best described as the 'Hammer house of Horror'!
We've always had them but it seem to be getting worse! Have you noticed the players have stopped running into the crowd when they score? but head the other direction!! I think Matej is stiil having counselling since being groped by the 'Sean of the Dead' away at Palace!
Looking a bit like Brad Pitt i find it difficult to embrace a toothless greasy tatood over weight weirdo... and the men are just as bad.. when we score!
In future can we sell tickets to normal looking people or would that just leave me and Cruisey in our end...Jesus!

Then that will build into a regular thing.. We need a sustained noise the whole match.. Not wine gums being opened and tutting (you know who you are)

Another reason for better atmosphere away is the much lower average age of our away v home support.
We need to increase the number of 16-25 yr-olds coming to the Vic, and then get them grouped together. Best way to do this is to introduce a new lower ticket price band in our half the Vic End for this age group + unreserved seating + cash-at-turnstile option, until sold out.
This is the age group most likely to sing/stand-up throughout the game and is also one of the most likely to be currently priced-out of attending. There would be nothing to stop like-minded older fans (like me) choosing to join the young'uns in the Vic End.

Also we need aggressive pricing in the Lower Rous family area next season to ensure it's full every game and re-establish our family club credentials (along side the recent Junior Hornet re-launch).

We could do worse than look to the Bundesliga to see what smart pricing can do for attendances and atmosphere.

It's amazing now to see the style with which Watford play now, and then to contrast that with the bog standard, ordinary, english style, donkey football that you see the opposing teams playing. Then I think thank God we've moved on from that style of football at last, and how lucky we are to be seeing this new, modern Watford team week in and week out. When you do contrast the styles like that you realise just how far we've come in such a short time. All Hail the Pozzo's! All Hail Gianfranco Zola!

Absolutely. Which is why i can't understand why attendances are hardly up from last season and still miles down from Hoofroyds last season, which was the definition of donkey football.
Get to the playoff final and there's sure to be 40-45k Watford 'fans' at Wembley.

On the thread of good looking watford fans and their wives, I used to take my Missus to home games years ago, now I ain't saying shes's a big lass, but before she had our nippers, she had a job at Heathrow airport, kick starting Jumbo Jets and she once told me that when she was born, she was so ugly, the midwives slapped her mother instead lol.

Yea, if it wasn't for this article I wouldn't have got my ticket so early, so thanks WO. So that leaves the away fans to squabble over the final 250 tickets on the day. All this in a stadium that holds over 30,000 seats and who have averaged 15,000 this year....what a joke.

We can't hear it in the Vic... You are drowned out by the away fans... Why don't some of the floating fans go to the Vic end for a few matches... Loads of empty seats.. Then that will build into a regular thing.. We need a sustained noise the whole match.. Not wine gums being opened and tutting (you know who you are)

Sorry, forgot to say..."not to clever near the ground"...F*&^% Sh*t hole is the word your looking for. how are you getting there from the train station, you could walk, its about two miles away and you can play spot the white man, best to get a cab, about a four mile or so ride. Mc D's down the road from it and a pub if you walk up passed the ground top of the hill on the right, but I guess it'll be full of yam, yam's. hope this help's, would go myself, but the Dragon's working so have to look after the kids.

I created an account just to comment on this story.

Being in Sydney, it too far for me. But well done to all the lads and girls for making the trips away. It must help the team.....

Also, keep pushing for those separate areas for vocal and non vocal... why the non vocal people insist on sitting in the Rookery I will never know... move, your too quiet, and the view is better from the Rouse. ;)
