It is the selection quandary which Gianfranco Zola has had to deal with all season and which remains as relevant as ever tonight; who will partner Troy Deeney up front? Will it be top scorer Matej Vydra or the in-form Fernando Forestieri?

No matter what decision he makes, the Hornets head coach believes it will not have a detrimental impact on his side’s chances tonight.

“The good thing is whatever decision I make it is not going to be a mistake,” Zola joked yesterday (Thursday) afternoon. “I can close my eyes and point to one name or the other and it will be a good choice.”

Vydra has struggled for form in recent weeks and has failed to find the net in his last ten appearances for the Hornets.

It is in stark contrast to Forestieri, who has scored five goals in his last eight matches and produced an outstanding display against Blackburn Rovers last Saturday, as the Hornets confirmed their play-off spot.

One of them is likely to start tonight’s game on the substitutes’ bench but Zola insists both players understand the team comes first.

Speaking after Saturday’s 4-0 win, Zola stated: “All the players are very important but this is not about Fernando Forestieri, Matej Vydra or Gianfranco Zola; it is about Watford Football Club.

“So it might be in the next game I play someone else. But they are not playing for themselves they are playing for Watford.

“If we win and we get promotion then it will be fantastic for all of us.”

Vydra and Forestieri joined Watford last summer on loan from Udinese.

Forestieri quickly impressed and his energy and flair stood out in the early part of the season before he found first-team opportunities harder to come by due to the form of Vydra.

The little Argentine made his move to Vicarage Road permanent in January by signing a five-and-a-half year contract.

Zola believes Forestieri has “improved a lot” during the season and added: “His main quality is that he protects the ball and in a one-versus-one situation he can be very good.”

The Italian continued: “He has improved a lot and you can see that he is more effective for the team. He has set up goals and has scored many goals in the last few weeks. He can be a terrific player that is for sure.”
