Watford FC's plans to build a new East Stand at Vicarage Road Stadium moved a step closer this week as a proposed demolition notice was posted outside the ground.

The notice shows the club is seeking to demolish the main East Stand structure, which ends at the players' tunnel.

The media centre, former supporters club building, toilet block and most of the terracing to the left of the main building will be demolished.

The concrete structure to the right of the main stand, which houses the players’ changing rooms and tunnel, will remain but the roof will be removed as well as some of the terrace area at the front of that section.

The application is still pending consideration by Watford Borough Council and the club has indicated it hopes to begin the demolition on August 19 and expects work to be completed by September 30.

The club’s application confirms the demolition work is “in preparation for construction of a new structure”

Great news. Well done to all involved.

By leaving the newest part of the old stand in place for changing rooms etc it would imply a temporary seating structure will be added to allow more fans to attend games. I'd say, stick the away fans in that and have two home ends which will create a great atmosphere and would allow for a cash turnstile in the north east corner for home fans and solves the issue of having away fans next to the family area.

If they do a temporary structure lets just hope it isn't too nice and becomes the permanent solution!!

Along with the new Vic Rd train station everything is coming together off the pitch as well as on it. Good times!

It's not made very clear. It sounds as though that Stand will remain with the roof removed. Presumably it will be simpler to demolish together with the changing rooms that are underneath.

Bournemouth on Saturday is as good as a sell out we will easy get 20k plus in premier league even with no increase of home fans away fans will be more I reckon a 25k capacity will get filled quite a lot.

I was surprised how long it took for attendances to increase last season given the quality and success. But the tide seems to have turned if we can virtually sell-out oppo like Bournemouth in early August (Pozzo-sceptics finally won over...?)

If we can make a great start, full-houses could become the norm this year as non-ST holders will be booking ahead to avoid disappointment.

Well, well, well! Now all of those moaners about us not doing anything with the East Stand might be silenced temporarily. What a change from the Bassini era where much was said about what would be happening to the new Pozzo era where not a lot is said but a whole of things keep happening in a positive direction. I love all these pleasant surprises, I must admit at first it was hard to deal with not being informed in advance about what was happening in the background, but now I am confident that the whole club is working to bring Watford up to the highest possible standard for a "small" club. So far we have had no big fanfares just a consistent flow of improvements both on and off the pitch. No seeking of praise from the owners and management but clearly a lot of hard work going to provide us supporters with a club to be even more proud of in the future.

Just need to be 10 points clear by January and we'll probably have a new stand for next August. Simples!!!

A big step in the right direction even if a temporary stand is erected.

As my moniker suggests this subject has been a beef of mine since using the stand as a Vice President then a ST holder. Many happy memories for me in that grand old stand (or should that be old grandstand. Ha!).

In the bowels of the stand i had the pleasure of meeting and mixing with many of the games illuminaries from SEJ and Sir Stanley Rous to Bertie Mee and David Coleman aswell as most of the players who have passed through the club. Happy days and sociable evenings all lodged in the mind after so many great matches particularly when the players appeared in the Directors and VP boxes after our successful promotion attempts.

Let's hope that a new permanent structure serves us all just as well as the old one has.

Right, i'm off to peruse, with misty eyes, through Ollie Phillips book with a glass in my hand.

More importantly what is the deal with the red (& yellow) lion? I heard there was a problem with the licence?

I feel must apologise for my terrible punctuation. I did mean with increased seating capacity and promotion. And that we have sold out this Saturday a home game against Bournemouth which we didn't even do against Leeds last day of the season.
So to clarify for anyone still confused.
20k easy next year if they built more seats even if no more home fans come than this Saturday due to more away fans
25k capacity should be about what they are looking at as if we go up and stay up we could fill that against teams like arsenal/spurs etc.
hope all full stops, comas etc were used correctly. And everyone had a pleasant reading experience.

Negative comment in reaction to positive news. Would you rather continue to look at the stand the way it is? If you do you'll be the only one!
Bournemouth on Saturday is as good as a sell out we will easy get 20k plus in premier league even with no increase of home fans away fans will be more I reckon a 25k capacity will get filled quite a lot.
Isn't the capacity under 18k?
17,477 (Wikpedia)
That's what I thought - don't see how Saturday we will "easy (sic) get 20k plus"
He didn't say we could get 20k on Sat you fool, he said once we go up.
Ha ha - good response!

in that sense, I completely agree with you

(don't know how this caused a stir with so many people)

The Pozzos are intending for us to be in the Premier League and even the most pessimistic of Watford fans are daring to dream that this is now a very high possibility. Not only do they want us in the Premier League but they want us to stay there. So if we are in the Premier League do you not think there is a possibility particularly with the football we play these days that we might just manage to get 20k + in each home game?

Its well overdue but in a way its a shame that the last old skool part of the ground will be no more. As a kid i used to sit in the family area of the stand before progressing to the family terrace and then plotting my path to where the big boys stood below the scoreboard.

Ramage and Bigmeup.....have you noticed that Mercer only seems to surface to abuse people and never seems to have anything positive to say. He is abusive and as was mentioned completely lacking in class.
I think he's a big bully and you should report him to the headmaster!
So what do you think about your mate calling someone a tnuc?

Don't hide behind what you perceive to be irony...do you have an opinion?
I'm certainly not hiding and you should grow a pair, sticks and stones......
