Watford played host to a second division Hull City side in the third round of the FA Cup.
A Gareth Roberts strike on 66 minutes gave the visitors the lead and, when the popular Wilf Rostron was substituted five minutes later, the crowd turned on under-pressure manager Dave Bassett.
Malcolm Allen, having come on for Rostron, scored the equaliser and Watford eventually progressed after a second replay. This game, however, was Bassett's last in charge.
