With the forthcoming League Cup semi-final against Liverpool in mind, Ray Lewington made seven changes to his starting line-up for a trip to Wigan Athletic.
Little was expected from the trip to the promotion-chasing Latics, but a young Watford side put in a spirited performance, with first-half goals from Bruce Dyer and Danny Webber securing a 2-2 draw.
The match saw the debut of loan signing Chris Eagles, and the final appearance in a Watford shirt of left-back Paul Mayo.
