Blackburn Rovers have struggled for consistency this season, but cannot be ruled out of a late attempt for a play-off position with ten remaining games.

Their 1-1 draw against league leaders Leicester on Saturday will give fans a sense of optimism that they can close the nine point gap on sixth placed Reading.

Rovers currently sit in tenth place, two points above their opponents Watford going into the match at Vicarage Road. Whilst a victory will not see them rise above Ipswich in ninth, it will certainly give the team the impetus required to mount a dash for this season’s playoffs.

Recent form for the Lancashire side has been shaky, but the draw at Leicester and the 4-2 win against Huddersfield Town in their last two games have both been impressive results; ending their three game losing streak.

However, the cliché ‘consistently inconsistent’ is a justifiable summary of the season so far. The side have failed to record two consecutive wins since October, when victories against Birmingham City and Watford gave them the type of form more in keeping with a side aiming for promotion.

Blackburn Rovers' shining light this season has been striker Jordan Rhodes. The striker has featured in every league game this season, scoring 20 goals in 36 games. Rhodes could score his 50th competitive goal for the club against Watford, as he chases last season’s tally of 28.

Rhodes had previously gone eight games between January and March without scoring, before goals against Burnley and a hat-trick against former club Huddersfield reaffirmed him as one of the league’s top goal getters.

Alongside Rhodes, Blackburn could feature three players coming back from injury; Jason Lowe, David Dunn and Todd Kane. But Ben Marshall, Scott Dann and Grant Hanley are all expected to miss out through injury, as well as Tom Cairney remaining doubtful.

Watford may have lost the corresponding fixture in October 1-0, but did manage to put four past Rovers the last time the two teams played at Vicarage Road, in April 2013. Watford are on a five game winning streak at home, and will look to extend this and put a major dent in Blackburn’s slim play-off hopes.
