The Hornets travelled to Turf Moor to face Burnley on a ground where they had managed just a single draw in eight previous competitive visits.
This paltry return was improved upon in dramatic style as the Hornets galloped to a 7-4 victory.
Nine goals were scored in the first half, with Gareth Taylor's hat-trick for the home side eclipsed by loanee Michael Chopra's four for the Hornets.
