International striker may not return to Watford as he chases World Cup spot

South Korea's manager does not expect Chu-Young Park to play for Watford again this season - with the striker currently in Seoul receiving treatment.

Park joined the Hornets on loan from Arsenal on January 31 but has only played for just over an hour during one start and one substitute appearance.

The 28-year-old has been out injured since the beginning of March and reportedly arrived in Seoul for treatment on April 3, suffering with the skin infection Cellulitis.

Park scored in his last outing for South Korea on March 5, when he came off at half-time against Greece, and is trying to regain fitness for the World Cup in Brazil.

"Park is quickly regaining his form. But it will be difficult for him to go back to England for Watford's final match," South Korea manager Hong Myung-bo said on Monday.

"It would be better for Park to comment on whether he will go back to Watford. He will make a decision after discussing the matter with his team."

The striker, who is also referred to as Ju-Young Park by some, had a good goal scoring record at his previous clubs Monaco and FC Seoul before he joined Arsenal in 2011.

But he has failed to break into the Gunners side in the past three years and his career has suffered, making just seven appearances and scoring one goal. He spent last season on loan at Celta Vigo.

He joined on January 31st and was obviously not match fit (like Renegie) so was building up his fitness levels. However, one month later he got injured.

How difficult is it to understand?

A striker who has made 7 appearances and scored 1 goal in the last 3 years....nice work if you can get it.

I dont think it really needs South Korea's manager to tell us he wont play for Watford again.

Obviously not much of a miss, through no fault of his own really.
Common sense dictates that we need to be signing players asap now - no more last ditch panic loans who may or may not be fit enough - get them in, give them a full pre-season to get fit and get to know the other lads and hit the ground running in August.

For me, this team gets us in the top two

- New keeper

- Anya
- Hoban
- Angella
- Ekstrand
- Riera

- Tozser
- Murray
- Abdi

- Deeney
- Fessi

Need a back-up striker: Ranegie can fill in for Deeney, but we need a pacey striker of the Vydra mould (easy to find eh!)
but otherwise, I really don't see too much tinkering that needs doing.
The players are good enough, they just need to know their jobs and fight for ninety-FIVE minutes every game

Can't wait for next season.

Just another rubbish loan. He that should not be mentioned, that came from Loftus Road, Lucas the Kangaroo and loads of other substandard players that have not featured well. Reece Brown was another bad buy now at Carlisle.

Oh woe is me! We must be able to spend our money better and heaven forbid we play some of our younger players to see if they can do better than the carpet baggers.

well yeah I understand that - so point taken - but what did we get out of it? It's one thing to take on loan a player who's not 100% match fit but Park was clearly way way off that. And we should have known that. That's all I'm saying.

Although it's given us a nice warm feeling knowing they're wandering around outside the kitchen door looking for scraps while we're fine dining in the restaurant, in some ways I'm glad. It's part of being a football fan to have a credible rival. Well, "credible" is of course a matter of opinion. But for the last 5 years it's been like having a grudge against Croxley Casuals or whoever. Yes, a Carling Cup tie against them will bring them some reality.

I'd like to quibble. Ekstrand and Murray aren't "top two" players and still no pace up front.

^^^

No way Ekstrand would be in my choice of centre backs. Was great for most of last year but poor this season; check both Millwall goals Saturday for his lack of effort AND, more tellingly, his reactions afterwards.

Belkalem and Brown also poor and Hall constantly injured so if no one else comes in then Doyley/Cassetti rotate that 3rd slot.

Riera is NOT a wingback and Pudil has improved as the season has gone on but we still need an Anya clone in that position. It could have been Faraoni - quality player but just not doing it consistently.

And sorry but a midfield without McGugan or Merkel? I know one is inconsistent/lazy but he makes things happen but the other has shown touches of real class, just needs a proper pre-season and to build a relationship with Abdi.

Murray and Battochio both work hard and get around but tackling and end product are virtually nil.

Lastly, up front we all know what type of striker we need to accompany the target man.

My preferred starting eleven for next season:

Almunia / NewGoalkeeper

Hoban
Angella
Cassetti/Doyley

Anya
Abdi
Toszer
McGugan/Merkel
Pudil / New Wingback

Deeney / Ranegie
Forestieri / New 2nd Striker

And a defensive coach please.
If the above are not challenging for promotion then I give up.
