Long since promoted as champions of the fourth division, Watford faced Southport at Vicarage Road.
The Hornets won the game 3-2 and in doing so set a club record of 30 league wins for the season.
The game was Southport's last league gixture before failing to gain re-election and being replaced by Wigan Athletic, who Watford were not to meet in the league until 20 seasons later.
This was also the last of Dennis Bond's 301 appearances for the Hornets.
