Cliff Holton died suddenly at the age of 67 whilst on holiday in Spain.

The subject of astonishing transfers in and out of Vicarage Road, Holton holds the club record for goals scored in a single season (48 in 1959/60).

He possessed a shot the force of which Oliver Phillips in his book 'The Golden Boys' described as "almost impossible to exaggerate".

Without doubt the best player I ever saw in a Watford shirt, Cliff was equally as good at Centre Half as he was up front. His partnership with Dennis Uphill will be hard to beat.

The best Watford player I have ever seen.

My first season following the golden boys was the 1959/60 promo season when big Cliff and Dennis Uphill banged in all of those astonishing goals.

Died prematurely at 67, but never forgotten by me or thousands of older Watford fans.

RIP Big Cliff.
