He's back! Watford re-sign Matej Vydra on initial season-long loan

Watford's promotion hopes have been boosted by the re-signing of Matej Vydra on an initial season-long loan.

Vydra was a crucial part of the Hornets side which just missed out on automatic promotion during the 2012/13 campaign and then lost the play-off final in extra-time.

The Czech Republic international scored 22 goals that season and also won the Championship Player of the Season award.

His performances attracted the attention of several Premier League clubs during the first half of the campaign and despite a dip in form, West Bromwich Albion still decided to sign the Udinese striker on loan last summer.

The 22-year-old struggled to recapture his form in the Premier League though as he scored three times in 25 appearances for the Baggies.

We reported at the beginning of May that Watford were keen to re-sign Vydra and whilst his agent had initially suggested he wanted a move to a club in a top division in Europe, the Golden Boys remained confident of landing their number one transfer target.

At the end of May, Vydra spoke of not wanting to spend another season out on loan, having to meet new team-mates, and was keen to find a club where he could settle.

Watford have stated the current deal is "an initial" season-long loan which suggests a permanent deal could happen in the future - something which is likely to be determined by how the Hornets' promotion campaign pans out.

The Hornets' hierarchy want to mount a challenge for automatic promotion this season, after a disappointing campaign last time out, and have already strengthened the squad significantly.

Ex-Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes, former Premier League defenders Gabriel Tamas and Craig Cathcart and Leicester City's promotion-winning wide man Lloyd Dyer have already signed permanent contracts with the club.

Well, as others have stated on other strings on this site, once again this club shows its lack of ambition by the signing of this carthorse, along with donkey Cathcart. Apart from being a Championship player of the season, scoring 22 goals and being a Czech international, what has he ever done?
For those too dim to realise, that was sarcasm.
We know what this lad can do---if his heart is in it. And despite some postings on this site, the general feeling in Blackpool is regret that Cathcart is going---they have certainly not described him as a donkey/carthorse.
The club is doing what the supporters called for last season---players with Championship/British league experience or proven league ability.
As said before, now for Toszer

To all the usual "professional whinger numpites" on here who recently (make that for a VERY long time actually) have been coming out with such gems as "the East Stand is taking way too long", "no ambition, must be happy with the championship at Watford", "Pozzos are turning us into an Udinese feeder club" and other such complete drivel, BS and b****cks.

If you don't start pulling behind our great club after this colossal statement of intent then I have 2 things to say...

1. You don't deserve to be Watford fans
and
2. Do all proper Watford fans a favour and naff to support Spurs, where your ridiculous moaning will be more welcomed!

Absolutely over the moon about Matty being back...only slight note of caution is that I hope Mr Chovanec shuts up for good this time and lets him focus on being a roaring success for a WHOLE season with the Orns this time.

Because we all saw what his blathering did to Matty last time around i.e. after those astonishing first 20 games.

Go get 'em Matty and to the whole of the Championship...be afraid....be VERY afraid!

Up the Orns!!! :-)

Give Deeney a new contract on the basis that in a years time his resell value could be even greater - furthermore (and this is contentious) make him team and club captain to complete his rehabilitation. Wonderful that Matej is back this will force defences to sit deeper and allow us more space to play in midfield and or kill them with the through ball. Toszer signing would more or less complete the set! Wow - Thank you Pozzo Familty!

Great suggestion jimbow. I've had a 75 mile ST for years (live in East Sussex) and it is a brilliant scheme. 15 matches to choose from each season. I don't know any other club that offers this.

Today's is about Vydra - completely different signings!

This thread will soon be overflowing because all WFC fans are pleased to see Vydra back.

Shame the same cannot be said about Cathcart, hence the many doubters on that particular thread.

Some good signings made this close season, and time will tell whether or not Cathcart is one of them? In Angella stays and forms a good partnership with Hoban....... Cathcart will probably only be a squad player anyway.

I too am sick of the moaners who come on this site as if they would like to return to the bad and very bad old days. Surely soon it will sink in that the Pozzos are the best type of football owners and fans of other clubs (e.g. Leeds, Forest) would love to have them.

Most unbelievable are those that criticise the East Stand situation. How long have we a had a wreck to look at? Now a new stand is rising gradually, and who cares if it takes a few more weeks/months to finish!?

So you don't think Toszer will sign then? As others have said he's the other key signing for us. It's he and Abdi playing the right balls for him to run onto, that's the key linking play for me.

No problems there but you forgot the jewel in the crown ..... Abdi, his passing will supply the front two. Few teams will be able to cope with that line up.

Get Tozser deal completed and we are almost there!!!

Let's just hope Sannino can handle it, 2 months max.

All comments have been positive which is hardly surprising given his first season. I just want to add by saying that MV was good for us but we were also good for him. He (and his agent) will know that a poor season with Watford will put a serious dent into his future aspirations. He has a lot to lose so will want to make it a special season for himself as well as the Golden Boys.

Let's hope for a successful partnership ... again.

We're going to get an automatic place. Hold your horses, reign in your daughters, get the kippers out, we're going up.

Immigrants are also emmigrants. It all depends how you look at it.

Tozser not signed yet, but I think Vydra signing might help. Need to extend Deeney's contract if possible. Make him captain as he is the leader on the pitch - he seems to thrive on the responsibility. Troy seems to be improving continually - apart from that slight dip in form in the autumn, when no one was playing well. But Tozser is key too.

I think we will have a very competitive team - but let's not count chickens like last season.

It is reported that veteran midfielder Massimo Ambrosini could be set for a move to English Championship side Watford.

The 36-year-old is currently without a club following his departure from Fiorentina and has apparently rejected several contract offers from other Italian sides this summer, including newly-promoted Cesena.

In recent days, Ambrosini’s agent said that his client is only interested in a move abroad. According to Tuttomercatoweb.com, the Hornets may now be about to grant him his wish.

The site claims that talks regarding a contract have already taken place between the player’s representatives and the Pozzo family, the Italian owners of the Hertfordshire club.

He is most well known for his time at AC Milan, where he spent eighteen years of his career and captained the side from 2009 to 2013 following the retirement of Paolo Maldini. Ambrosini is well regarded for his aerial ability, leadership skills, passing, and tackling.

Even if its just for a 1 year deal, he has got a commanding role in Midfield which we lacked last year, had been a leader for Milna for 5 years, again something we needed last season.

I think Dyer will be our best signing this season, can see him and Matej linking well together.
So you don't think Toszer will sign then? As others have said he's the other key signing for us. It's he and Abdi playing the right balls for him to run onto, that's the key linking play for me.
Yeah I think He will sign (fingers crossed) but I still think Dyer will be our little gem next season!

He is quick and will be able to provide us with a really good counter attack option with deeney and Vydra to supply the ball too.

Abdi and Toszer will also play a key part in the "link play" when we are not on the counter. all in all , will be a good starting XI with a strong bench as well !

I thought of Pudil after I made the post earlier. I think Faraoini might leave anyway - interest from Italy last season. Pudil perhaps should replace him on the bench, as he is a better defender and might be needed to help close games out. Fair point Gash69.

I think you could also makee a pint of Battochio being on the bench instead of either McGugan or Murray. Suddenly we might have an embarrassement of riches.... Ambrosini linked too... another leader on the pitch, but I think Prem clubs might take on punt on him. Very good player.

This has made my day. Although you can argue that some of our players are premier league quality the only one I looked at and thought truly is, is Vydra.
The other season it was his runs and vision he was a league above the rest of the team. Before I get slated you have to watch premier league football live to get a true understanding. Now I don't want to go on holiday as will miss two games. If we can keep Deeney and get a few others through the door, this will be our year. Derby and Watford could well be the tow to watch this season,C'mon you horns.

This should be the statement of intent people have been asking from the Pozzos. We all read the comments from his agent and supposed quotes from the man himself - to turn that around should show that the Pozzos, and probably Vydra himself, really buy in to the idea of us making a massive push this season.

Any defender in the league will brick themselves at the thought of Vydra, Anya and Dyer running at them - that opens the gaps for the likes of both Deeney and Fessi to really show what they can do.

I am excited!

I think you are right Oxford Away 1992..

The likes of Boosey, lutondown and Harry's Bar were saying how rubbish Vydra is and questioning is professionalism when he left us.
Ted
You are so not what you say you are. In fact your reference to immigration is a tactic deployed by the loony left in an attempt to discredit UKIP. Sad to see people fall for your idiocies.
In regards to Vydra I think I'd. Like to see where any of us three discredited Him. Put up or shut up you tool

This is the best bit of news I have seen in months, Let's hope Tozser signs, Troy stays, Bo77ox, why have I moved to Cornwall, all the best in 2014/2015 for the Glory Horns.
Buy yourself a 75mile Season Ticket, I've had one for a few years and I live in Cornwall; where a bouts are you living?
Great suggestion jimbow. I've had a 75 mile ST for years (live in East Sussex) and it is a brilliant scheme. 15 matches to choose from each season. I don't know any other club that offers this.
What about a 7000 mile season ticket?

UKIP Ted

I just pictured you as a Ted. Do you have a quiff and a purple drape jacket with yellow lapels?
