Widespread anger greeted Nigel Gibbs' departure from Watford nine years ago today

Watford announced that "following a restructuring of the coaching staff", Nigel Gibbs would be leaving Vicarage Road.

Gibbs had been at the club since signing schoolboy terms in 1981; he made his debut in 1983 and spent 19 years in the first team before moving onto the coaching staff, first as reserve team manager and then as Ray Lewington's assistant.

His dismissal by newly appointed Aidy Boothroyd caused considerable consternation amongst supporters.

The bit that Nigel did not like was he went on a coaching course with AB paid for by WFC and NG thought AB must have known before the course that he had decided that Nigel was for the chop.

Managers are transient - loyal club men like Nigel Luther & Kenny become disposable. Short term cash savings to pay for long term disasters.

As for Kenny - he was given a year extension on his contract that took him up to the time Viali was shown the door, (as a sweetener to making him redundant). So we kissed goodbye to someone who had already shown then and later that he was up to the job - unlike Viali.

Would like to see him back at the Vic, possibly as a defensive coach
