Allan Smart was born in Perth, Scotland.
His Watford career after joining the club in 1998 encompassed only 50 starts but several highlights, not least the hugely emotional conclusive goal in the 1999 Championship play-off final and the winner against Chelsea at Vicarage Road the following season. He missed much of that season due to injury, to Watford's detriment.
A hastily-submitted transfer request in 2001 confirmed the end of his time in Hertfordshire; his subsequent career proved nomadic, encompassing a large number of clubs, none of whom afforded him anywhere near as many games as he enjoyed at Vicarage Road.
