The Hornets are still looking to sign a home-grown midfielder on loan despite completing a temporary deal for Italian Gianni Munari this week.

Watford have signed ten players this summer, the latest of which is midfielder Munari who has penned a season-long loan from Parma.

Munari’s arrival means the Golden Boys currently have ten professionals on their books who are capable of playing in the centre of midfield.

With the extreme competition for places, we understand the arrival of another midfielder is likely to result in one of the more experienced midfielders leaving the club on loan.

In addition to a midfielder, the Hornets are still looking to add another home-grown goalkeeper to their squad.

As others have said before, Leicester and Burnley were successful last season mainly down to having a settled first 11 with no chopping and changing.

I do hope we are not going to see too much rotating of players this season just to keep everyone happy.

I couldn't agree more. This is getting a bit daft, why bring in another midfielder just to ship one out. Having a squad this big means A] We can't keep everyone happy and this will lead to discontent in the squad. and B] We will be chopping and changing the side when all evidence shows that it is the teams that use the fewest players that are the most successful.

Must be Battochio to leave, I love him but Murray/ McGugan have one big advantage over him and that's nationality!

im happy to sit on the bench as sub keeper or 88th choice centre mid! Im home grown and I wont whinge at not coming on as long as Deeney doesn't put me on sleep cam, I can see the pitch and I get to do keepie uppies with Fessi and Fabs at half time!!!

You do just think - why bring another in just to get rid of one? I think it's probably fair to suppose that at least 2-3 midfielders in the squad won't really be getting any game time this season, and that's just an inevitability with a squad our size. Having said that, it only takes an unlucky set of injuries and we're putting 20 year old reserves on the bench like Jakubiak or Smith or O'Nien just to meet a quota.

Battocchio does seem the obvious choice to go. He is young, and so really should be gaining experience, but who doesn't really have a decent chance in our current squad. However, contrary to what everyone says, I haven't seen anything official to suggest Iriney is gone, and so if he is still here, then surely he has to go, irrespective of whether we get a new player. Not in our plans and with a fairly hefty wage bill.

Either way you look at it, at the moment we have 10 central midfielders competing for 3 places, 11 if you include Iriney. Why mess about more?

Just a thought... Do Udinese rotate their team? Could be a Pozzos thing to have a large squad.. Or if you are a successful team, your players become desirable and command higher prices,..

Well 2-8-1 would be even more controversial. Maybe it's a bit risky playing that one striker so far forward, and we should just go for 1-9-0.

I agree he isn't perfect - but at the end of the day, he gave us the goals last season that we lost from Abdi being injured. In fact, he scored more than Abdi, and in a team that was otherwise scoring significantly less.

It's true that he probably didn't assist as many as Abdi, and he's not the same playmaker - but we should be grateful for that. He was our second top goalscorer, and scored 11 from midfield in one season, which in my books is something you should never complain about.

Two of those were penalties, and lets remember that McGugan

I'm glad that someone agrees with me!

Battocchio is such a tidy player, happy to knock it 5-10 yards just to keep the ball moving and keep us in possession - he doesn't feel the need to hollywood one across the pitch every time he gets it. Tozser, Batts and Abdi (with Murray and Andrews close behind them) are how I'd play it. McGugan's a bit hit and miss for me.

We really do not need any more players after this one.

Why are we getting another midfielder, Andrews has looked like the class player we expected so far in preseason. Surley the only place on the pitch we need a player is Left back! Is nobody else concerned that Pudil is the only regonized left sided defender on the books?! Also he is better going forward than defending! I know we have people that CAN play there, but if we are sigining all these players wouldn't it make sense to sign one in a position where we lack quality cover?!

Two of those were penalties, and lets remember that McGugan
shot on site and took almost all the free kicks.
Also remember that Deeney scored a few from set pieces, including penalties.

Chelsea willing to let Chalobah go out on loan, but he will probably go to a Prem club. Be lovely if we could get him back though.

Was just about to comment saying that! I don't think so, apparently he was very average at Middlesborough last season, would be great to have him back though! Although the competition for our 3 central midfield roles would be too much I think.

On another note, I don't see Sean Murray getting anywhere near our team this year unfortunately, we should send him out on loan.

Talksport mentioned this morning that Nathaniel is going on loan to Burnley, which from Chelsea's viewpoint is sensible progression. Anyway we won't/ can't pay the lion's share of his £35k per week salary, a decision I agree with.

Maybe he is geared not to have a left and right defence as a norm and go for 3 at the back again? As for another midfielder we did this second season under the Pozzo's and Zola and it caused a lot of issues with the coming and going as the majority were loans, especially as Hogg was allowed to go there was no stability, I really hope we sort this out and not miss out whilst trying to sort the starting XI.

The point I'm trying to make is that he should start over mcgugan.

Disagree. He's not the holding midfielder, he's neat and tidy with his play, always wants the ball, starting to pop up with goals. He would therefore compliment the midfield three and give balance with tozser and abdi.

Mcgugan, for every goal he scores or sets up he misses three or takes the wrong option, slows down play and therefore shouldn't start.

Doesnt really matter how they get them.... they all count... 11 goals from midfield is a good return, he'd be in my starting 11
