Watford have released a statement explaining that the Vicarage Road pitch is currently discoloured in places due to an infection but stressed there is no long-term risk to the surface.
The statement included the following: “Those caring for Watford's pitch are looking to rid it of some discolouration, caused by an infection picked up due to the abnormally warm weather conditions experienced across the past couple of months.
“Ongoing treatment - including specialised spraying - will take place after Saturday's season-opener at home to Bolton Wanderers here at The Vic.
“There is believed to be no long-term risk to the health of the usually pristine playing surface.”
