Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp says Watford's valuation of striker Troy Deeney is more than Hoops are willing to pay

Harry Redknapp admits Queens Park Rangers were interested in a move for Troy Deeney but says Watford’s valuation of the striker is more than the club are willing to pay.

The 26-year-old, who netted in the Hornets’ 3-0 win against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday, has been the subject of several transfer bids throughout the summer.

QPR and Leicester City have had offers of between £7.5m and £8m rejected by Watford, although the Foxes are expected to come in for the 26-year-old again with a bumper bid.

Redknapp says the Rs are still in the market for a striker but it appears his attention has turned away from Deeney.

“He is a player that we were interested in – it was just the fee,” Redknapp told London24.

“We made an enquiry. Watford have their own valuation and it was just a bit more than we felt we would want to pay.”

Who cares what Harry says.

The money he wastes sends his own fans up the wall and no doubt with all this talk he tries to unsettle other teams players.

Best suggestion is someone sharpens the car door window so that he can stick his neck out when he is giving a Harry style interview and hope he loses the window by mistake. It may stop his mouth running off.

Fantastic !! Qpr can't get him on the cheap . Love it ! He would have gone for 4-5m under previous owners . I think it's brilliant that we have told a club with so much financial backing to do 1 . Brilliant !! Also well played to TD9 during all of this . Will hopefully stay and become a true Watford legend by scoring 20 goals in the premiership for Watford next season. Well played you Troy

They are all that's wrong with modern football and that last minute play-off goal probably kept them in business.
Even though I admire Nigel Pearson, Leicester will also struggle and we could pass them next May, so really hope TD stays unless it's an established Prem club (like Everton).

In a 12 month period they handed out nearly 7m to agents. Had they not gone up , and in my opinion they were lucky to do so , the club could have gone the way of Pompey. Just a thought.

I Think harry knows hes worth at least 10m. He hasn't said hes not worth watfords valuation, just that they dont want to pay it. Which hopefully will set a bit of a benchmark for other prem teams trying to get decent championship players for peanuts. I dont see any point in selling deeney until we get to the prem. The going up money's so much more than 1 decent transfer. Plus banging in another 20 goals this season will only increase his value.

How do you know he hasn't got a contract that is exactly that?

This is what has happened. Pozzo's told Deeney at end of last season if offer of X comes in from a Premier league club you can go, if not, you stay.

Deeney has not agitated for a move as far as I can tell and seems perfectly happy playing for Watford. He knows we have a good team. He knows we have a good chance of going up. He is also settled outside of football and clearly has a routine that works for him. Players like Vydra and Tozser coming out in the press praising him will only help him feel like Watford is the place to be.

So, if someone comes in with the £10+m offer (which I believe is 99% certain to happen) then he will have a decision make. Lets hope he makes the right one.

What 'Arry says now means nothing. What he or anyone else does in the last hours of the transfer window is what I am worrying about. These clubs are under pressure to spend now to ensure Premier survival and will be desperate come 10pm on 1st Sept. That's when the big bid will come in and we'll see where the Pozzo's stand on keeping Deeney. I wouldn't be surprised if they sold for £10m +, and I wouldn't begrudge Troy a chance right now at the Premier, but I'd still be gutted. Fingers crossed he stays.

He's obviously hoping that Troy will read that and try to get Nani to "accept just a little bit less". Although it's well reported that Troy is happy and I imagine the first thing the Pozzos did was to sit down with TD and work out what an acceptable, informal, release clause (or a club of X stature) would be, and then allow the Pozzos to get the best deal for the club from that. Two things QPR will not meet.

Yes, it sounds like a loaded comment from Redknapp, trying to unsettle the player. Begs the question as to why the Watford Observer are publishing all this stuff? The players do read the forum Adam.
