Watford will not sell Troy Deeney this summer as the Hornets turned down a third bid from Leicester City for the striker

The Hornets have turned down a third bid from Leicester City for Troy Deeney and – barring an absurd offer – will not sell the striker this summer, the Watford Observer understands.

We understand the Foxes have had an initial offer of £10m, which could have reached £12m with add-ons, rejected by the Golden Boys.

Watford had been reluctant to sell the 26-year-old all summer but, previously, potential bids of around £10m may have been considered.

However, Deeney’s importance to the Hornets’ automatic promotion hopes have been evident in recent weeks and we understand Watford have decided they will not sell the striker.

Queens Park Rangers and Hull City have been linked with a move for Deeney this week after he impressed in the Golden Boys’ 3-0 win in their Championship opener with Bolton Wanderers last Saturday.

QPR and Leicester City have had offers of between £6.5m and £8m rejected by Watford this summer.

Prior to those bids, Swansea City and Burnley had offers turned down while Everton and Norwich City were also interested in Deeney in the past.

Last summer Hull City had a bid rejected by the Hornets for last season’s top scorer.

It's a huge statement of our intentions. It also shows Deeney how highly he is regarded by so many at the club and, of course, us. Captain Marvel. I often shake my head in disbelief at how fortunate we are to have these owners. From the ridiculous to the sublime. Had there ever been such a contrast between a current and previous regime in our history. Come on!

I don't think that the club would have stood in Deeney's way if he had expressed a wish to move on, so all credit to him too - and his agent. That said, I think he has made a very wise decision, as I'm sure he will enjoy the coming season with the Horns. As Marvin and Danny discovered, Championship success is no guarantee of a Premiership starting berth.

pointless post - how can you possibly suggest that these teams will offer £12m again in January? They might do, but its not like the Pozzos have that as a safety net,for all they know they will never get another offer for Deeney

It's a straightforward business decision. If the Pozzo's have concluded (not least from Vydra's comment) that Deeney will be the difference between Eldorado and another failed bid for promotion, then £12 million would be a very sound investment.

Err, not my point. If WFC mid-table by January then there may be a more unsettled team and TD will not have lost his value by that much (barring injury, which no one would wish on anyone).
