Millwall among clubs hoping to sign Watford and Sweden striker Mathias Ranegie

Mathias Ranegie looks set to leave Watford on loan, with several clubs, including Millwall, in talks with the striker.

The Sweden international impressed during pre-season but has not made a single appearance this season, as captain Troy Deeney has played every minute in the Championship and Matej Vydra, Fernando Forestieri and Odion Ighalo all appear to be ahead of Ranegie in Beppe Sannino's pecking order.

Ranegie held talks with Millwall yesterday but there are a few other clubs interested in the 6ft 5 striker, with sides in Europe also said to be interested.

The 30-year-old joined the Golden Boys in January from Udinese and signed a three-and-a-half year deal with the club.

He was injured when he first arrived but went on to make ten appearances for Watford, often starting alongside Deeney, and netted four times.

Ranegie has been capped five times by Sweden and he netted his sole goal for his country in a 1-1 draw against Syria in January 2010.

He was a latecomer to professional football and, after a largely unsuccessful spell at IFK Göteborg, made a name for himself at BK Häcken, where he scored 36 goals in 81 appearances.

Malmo signed him in 2011 and 13 goals in 26 games persuaded Udinese to buy the player in August 2012.

He made 24 Serie A appearances for the Little Zebras before joining the Hornets.

He's obviously not happy with the lack of game time and didn't even make the bench on Tues. Needs games, he's a decent striker with just Deeney in his way at the moment. Let him go to Millwall then he'll see how good he's got it at Watford. But make Gollum crawl first

Well if the Bolton game is anything to go by (he skulked off down the tunnel straight after our 3rd sub was made (Dyer for Pudil) i.e. when he realised he wasn't going to play), you might well be on to something there with the "maybe the attitude is wrong" thought Havana C!

Given that...

1. Matty V is back (get in!)
2. Troy has signed up for 4 more years (double get in!)
3. Fernando played a blinder v Beeston United (I've lived in Dirty Leeds for 10 years, so know that they love being called that name...not!)
4. Ighalo has showed signs of real promise when he's played (he made a big difference after coming on at Rotherham, for example)

...if you combine all of the above (i.e. a very high probability that he won't be in first team contention very much, if he stays with us this season) with a "possible" (not "definite" I hasten to add) issue with MR's attitude, you can see why sending him out on loan might well be a good move from our side.

If he gets regular football, maybe that will "stoke the flames" a bit and make him really want to push for a first team place, when he gets back?

And as already remarked, the irony behind Ferret Face H*ll*way wanting him on loan, is just brilliant.

Talk about a case of "Mr Pot, meet my friend Mr Kettle". What a tit that bloke is :-)

Bring on the Huddersfield and a Deeney hat-trick hopefully, COYH!

I don't want to see him leave, from what i have seen of him he is an excellent player. His size and lopping running style sometimes makes him appear lazy and slower than he actually is, I would be very sorry to see him leave. Four goals in 10 appearances, a fair few of them from the bench is quite a strike rate.

Shame - think he should be on the bench ahead of Ighalo - has a decent scoring record throughout his career (except at Udinese where he was a sub). Would prefer to see him and Vydra as a pair rather than Ighalo and Vydra if TD were injured.

Hopefully a 1 or 3 month deal, not full season.

I understand he wants to play but I was under the impression he was unfit for the start of the season and only returned to training recently, he'd make the matchday squad I would think unless similarly to McGugan and Dyer has has fallen out with management in which case move him on. My worry is that if Troy picks up an injury (touch wood) that we would struggle with a fairly small front three of Ighalo, Forestieri and Vydra

Would only add immediate recall clause if we hit striker injuries and suspensions mid-season. MR has the tools to be a force in the championship and Hollowhead for all his ranting is a good man motivator. So OK as long as it works for and not against us. Luv the Horns!

I have to agree, he has scored and Ighalo while popular with fans at Granada hardly had a good goals per game ratio. However if he is unlikely to be played alongside Deeney, there is little point him staying - but I would not want him going to a rival side in the championship as i think he is likely to score 15+ goals in a season.

In my opinion Ranegie's play has not matched his scoring exploits. And there you have it, but for a tall gangling man his goal record since joining has been very good. Not pleasing on the eye that's for sure but affective yes. He has been black and white. Black with his retaliation at Donnie and getting sent off needlessly and leaving us with 10 for much of the game, even though the guy was trying to niggle him, and yet quality at Derby when the team was struggling and he managed to pull a goal out of nothing, and the opportunity he took at QPR.

I guess there will be a clause that he cannot play against us and therefore if he is not getting game time here why not unleash him on other Championship defenders. Who knows he could help us win promotion by scoring against our rivals? If anything changes by Christmas he could be back in the fold.

I personally would never discount him.

Loan him out, get him some game-time, have him watched and call him back (preferably at very short notice, to annoy their very short manager) if he looks any good. What's the worst that can happen? He does well and helps Millwall take points off credible promotion rivals. He's obviously well down the pecking order at The Vic so it sounds like a win/win to me........especially if he is a dressing room stirrer.

This I suspect is the inevitable knock-on from Capt Troy's new deal at the Vic. IMO Ranegie and Ighalo were signed in preparation for the expected departure of Deeney. Now it looks like TD is staying and will start all the important games as long as he stays fit, leaving only scraps for MR and OI to fight over. Throw into the equation the outstanding talents of Vydra and Forrestieri and you can see why the big man is right to look elsewhere for pitch time. I feel a bit sorry for him, he has done nothing wrong but neither has he made an outstanding claim for a starting place. I feel more sorry for Battochio who never gave less than everything, for Dyer our joint top scorer who cant get a start and for Fabbrini who delivers something special in the few minutes he is given only to be rewarded with a place on the bench if he is lucky.
Is there such a thing as too good a squad ? We are about to find out.

I could not believe Mr Hollowhead had the stupidity to say to camera he did now know Watford had all these loans until he read the programme. Talk about telling your boss that you don't do research on your opponents.

It will be embarrassing as when MR is speaking English to IH he will have to explain what the words mean, as English is a foreign language to the West Country bumpkin.
