Oscar Garcia has been given the all-clear by doctors and today (Thursday) returned to Watford’s training ground.

But the Hornets head coach did not take training and it was unclear whether he will be in the dugout at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Oscar spent a week in hospital after being admitted on September 14 following chest pains.

He was released on Sunday but only returned to the club’s London Colney training ground today.

Assistant coach Ruben Martinez this afternoon said: “Oscar has nothing [wrong with him]. He is like a normal person. It [his heart] is totally normal now.”

Martinez continued: “He had a lot of tests because it is about a heart, not a leg or something like that, so it was serious. So it is normal he wants to know everything and be sure.

“Now all the doctors, the English and Spanish doctors, says it is ok. I spoke with him and he wants to come back as soon as possible because he enjoys football.

“He loves football and his job. I think in a few days we can enjoy him again.”

He added: “All the tests were very good and he wants to come back as soon as possible because he enjoys his profession.

“He has had his treatment and is now 100 per cent [ready] to come back.”

Today Oscar spoke to some of the players in the eating area at the club’s training ground but did not address the team collectively and held meetings with the club’s owner Gino Pozzo and other key staff.

Martinez and fellow assistant coach Javier Pereira have been taking the team for training and the matches with Blackpool and Bournemouth.

Martinez stated it was still unclear if the 41-year-old would be at the game at Ewood Park on Saturday but hoped he would be.

When asked when Oscar would be returning to training, Martinez replied: “I think next week. [But it] may be tomorrow, I’m not sure. In a few days he will be with us.”

“He wants to come back gradually but I think in a few days he will be back on the training pitch,” he added.

Martinez thanked everyone for their ‘get well’ messages on behalf of Oscar, who he has worked with at Barcelona, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Brighton & Hove Albion prior to their arrival in Hertfordshire.

Oscar had held detailed discussions with the coaches before Saturday’s draw with Bournemouth and they also had talks in advance of the win at Blackpool.

It is believed Oscar has again had an influence on the team selection and tactics heading into tomorrow's game.

Martinez described Watford’s players as “very good guys” and praised their professionalism heading into the two games where Oscar has been absent.

It is a sentiment which Oscar made in his programme notes for the Bournemouth match.

“I won’t be at the match today (Saturday) – but I am hopeful that I will be returning to work very soon,” Oscar said, via his programme notes.

“It has not been an easy time for obvious reasons, so I am especially proud of both the players and staff for the way that everyone has worked during the last week to produce the best possible outcomes for the club.”

Oscar spoke of how he only had a few days with the whole squad due to the international break and stated the aim during that time was to put into place the structure and essential aspects of his philosophy on how he would like the team to play.

He continued: “I hope that you have seen some of these things within the team’s performance so far, although there is of course a lot of development that will happen throughout the squad as we move forward.

“I know that my assistants Ruben and Javier, along with all of the coaching staff, will continue our philosophy into today’s game.

“Support them and the players as much as you can.”
