Watford have impressed in Billy McKinlay’s first game in charge of the club and lead Brentford 1-0 at the break.

It looked as though the Hornets were not going to make the most of their first-half dominance against the Bees.

But then Odion Ighalo was brought down in the box five minutes before the interval and whilst his poor penalty was saved by David Button, the Nigerian striker followed up for his first goal for the club.

The Golden Boys made three changes to their starting XI as Joel Ekstrand replaced the injured Gabriele Angella, Lloyd Dyer came in for Sean Murray and Diego Fabbrini started instead of Ikechi Anya.

The home side impressed during a dominant first half where they had a number of blocked shots and nearly moments.

Ighalo almost scored a deserved opener a quarter of an hour into the contest when he headed Dyer’s delivery against the crossbar.

Brentford looked a threat in the final third though and could have taken the lead themselves when Jonathan Douglas was left unmarked at free-kick and Heurelho Gomes also had to deny Jota following a skilful run.
