Watford offer the second cheapest day out in the Championship according to BBC Sport’s Price of Football Study, but that currently only applies to one weekend this season.

The study states that the cheapest adult ticket available at Vicarage Road is priced at £14. However, that is the cost of a ticket for the ‘Remembrance match-day’ against Millwall on Saturday, November 1.

For that match-day fans can purchase a ticket, programme, pie and tea for £21.90.

Usually the lowest priced adult ticket Watford offer is £26. If that figure was included then the Golden Boys’ cheapest match-day ticket would be the most expensive in the Championship, according to the BBC study.

Watford season ticket holders pay just above the average price (£342.70) for the league, according to the study. The lowest price season ticket on offer for Hornets supporters is £366.

Watford’s £3 programme is in line with the majority of Championship sides but the cost of a pie (£3.30) is the eighth highest in the division.

It’s good news for those fans who like a tea with the Golden Boys offering the second cheapest brew in the league at £1.60.

Away from Vicarage Road, adult supporters who buy a home or away shirt are paying the joint third lowest price (£40) for their replica kit.

The BBC’s study has revealed the average price of the cheapest tickets across English football has risen at almost twice the rate of the cost of living since 2011.

The average match-day ticket price from the Premier League to the Football League is £21.49. That is a rise of 13 per cent since 2011 while the cost of living has risen by 6.8 per cent.

Norwich City supporters are having to pay the most for their season ticket in the Championship. The cheapest season ticket at Carrow Road costs £499.50.

Charlton Athletic supporters are getting the best deal in the Football League to watch their side throughout the campaign with the Addicks offering a £150 season ticket.

The most expensive Championship match-day ticket can be found at Fulham (£45) while Wigan’s £27 ticket is the cheapest more expensive ticket in the division. Watford’s most expensive match-day ticket is £31, the sixth lowest in the league.

When comparing prices for sides in the Premier League and Football League to those across Europe, it is grim reading for English football fans.

While the cheapest season ticket in the Premier League is offered by champions Manchester City (£299), Champions League winners Real Madrid offer a season ticket that costs just £174.65.

Barcelona’s cheapest season ticket is priced at £103.38 while fans of German giants Bayern Munich can watch their side throughout the season for £109.65.
