A second tier game with Bolton Wanderers at Vicarage Road saw the Hornets without striker Paul Furlong, sitting out the first game of a seven-match suspension.
An awful performance saw the Hornets 3-0 down with 20 minutes remaining.
A remakable turnaround saw Ken Charlery come off the bench to score his last goal for the club, and Gary Porter strike a hat-trick culminating in a last-minute penalty to give the home side a most improbable 4-3 victory.
