Watford were drawn against a struggling, injury-stricken Southampton in the fourth round of the League Cup.
The Hornets steamrollered their hapless visitors with a Bruce Dyer header, a rare brace from James Chambers and a Heidar Helguson volley providing a 4-0 lead by midway through the second half.
Steve Wigley's side, which included former Hornet Kevin Phillips, managed a couple of late goals but Hameur Bouazza added a fifth for Watford to seal a suitably conclusive scoreline.
