Slavisa Jokanovic believes Almen Abdi will “100 per cent” improve Watford’s control of possession when he returns from injury but says the Hornets must not rely on just one player.

The Golden Boys’ head coach has been disappointed with how his side have kept the ball in their previous two matches, which have resulted in 2-1 and 1-0 defeats to Birmingham City and Ipswich Town.

Swiss midfielder Abdi has been absent since the 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest on October 21 due to a shoulder injury.

Abdi has missed Watford’s last four matches and the Hornets have taken just four points from those games.

The 28-year-old is expected back for the Golden Boys’ Championship clash with Derby County in 12 days and Jokanovic was asked if that will help Watford’s possession game.

He replied: “It is not a question of one player. Troy (Deeney) is now with us who wasn’t before (because of injury), it is a team job though. Of course, 100 per cent, Abdi can help us.

“I expect he will be ready to work with us soon but, at the moment, it is not a question of just one player.”
