The large Watford FC ‘Legends’ flag will be used for the first time at the Hornets’ home game with Cardiff City – when the club will also be honouring the greatest manager in their history, Graham Taylor.

The Golden Boys will be officially renaming the Rous Stand as ‘The Graham Taylor Stand’ on Saturday, November 29 when they face Cardiff.

Supporters group The 1881 received their large Legends ‘surfer flag’, which is more than 25m by 15m, on Monday and will use it across a section of the Rookery Stand for the first time at that game.

It has Taylor at the centre and the ex-England manager is surrounded by 11 other Hornets greats.

It cost around £1,500 and the majority was covered by funds raised by The 1881. The club did contribute some of the money and received the flag for the group on Friday.

It was picked up by The 1881 on Monday and was checked at Hertswood Academy, in Borehamwood, on Monday.

It will not be a permanent fixture at Vicarage Road and will be used infrequently by The 1881 at different times during the season.

The 1881 group was set up in the spring of 2013 with the aim of improving the atmosphere at Watford games by creating a singing section, which is based in the Rookery End.

They have more than 400 members and – with the help of the Watford Supporters Trust – have raised more than £4,000 to spend on banners and flags.
