Troy Deeney struck the decisive goals as Watford defeated Wigan Athletic 2-1 yesterday but was he the Hornets’ man of the match in the victory?

Deeney fired the Golden Boys in front in the first half before Chris McCann levelled the game.

The Watford captain suffered a slight knee injury after being clattered by Scott Carson in the second period but battled on and headed home the winning goal in the 82nd minute.

Sebastien Bassong impressed in the Hornets defence. The Norwich City loanee has looked assured in the Hornets' last two victories and was a composed performer against Wigan.

Ikechi Anya created both goals for Deeney. The first was via a clever header before his cross picked out Deeney at the back post to score.

Craig Cathcart was again an assured presence in the Watford defence. He returned to the side against Fulham nine days ago and has produced two strong displays.
