Slavisa Jokanovic says his desire to make two more signings has reduced significantly after Watford’s current squad showed they understood what he wanted from them.

The Hornets head coach regularly stated in January he wanted another centre back and midfielder and reiterated that after the transfer window closed.

Watford use a continental model where the owner, Gino Pozzo, sporting director Luke Dowling and chief executive Scott Duxbury all have a role to play in bringing signings to the club.

Jokanovic appeared frustrated at the start of February when the club were unable to secure the two additions he requested but yesterday (Thursday) admitted recent weeks have reduced his perceived need for the players.

Watford confirmed they are not in advanced negotiations with any potential signings but we understand the Golden Boys – like usual – are on the lookout for players who could improve the team, although we have been told anyone recruited would need to be good enough to demand a place in the starting XI.

Jokanovic said: “I can be happy with the [recruitment] situation because I believe the players in my squad understand better what we need and in the emergency loan window you have to follow other teams and it depends on their situation whether you can sign a player.

“In front of me are so many games and this problem is separate because I have more urgent things in front of us.”

He added: “I can’t waste my energy on this situation. The January transfer window is closed and I have around me people who are working on this.

“In this moment I would prefer to bring in [Chelsea’s holding midfielder] Nemanja Matic but that is not possible for us. I can’t spend my time thinking of better solutions.

“I have to try to improve the players in front of me and I have to be happy because the players have given me a signal that they are ready to work with me and can be better. This is our target in this moment.”

The emergency loan window closes on March 26.

Players are only allowed to spend 93 days out on emergency loan during a season.

One player the Hornets remain keen to add to their squad is Leicester City defender Liam Moore. Click here for more.
