Rotherham United found themselves on the wrong end of an emphatic 5-0 thrashing away to Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend; extending their run of away games without a win to five.

Striker Benik Afobe struck twice to ensure a Wolves win at Molineux and condemned The Millers to their 12th Championship loss of the season after 32 games played.

Last year’s League One play-off winners currently sit in 21st position in the table, three points clear of Millwall in the relegation zone.

Prior to their heavy loss against Wolves, Rotherham had lost just once in their last five Championship games; a run that included a 2-0 win over Ipswich Town at home as well as a 3-3 draw with league leaders Derby County.

The club’s visit to Vicarage Road on Tuesday will be their fifth match against top eight opposition since the start of 2015 (including an FA Cup tie against Bournemouth); from a total of 10 games.

Rotherham have been reliant on their home form to keep them adrift of the relegation spots, with 21 of their 34 points being recorded at The New York Stadium.

Aside from a 2-0 defeat to AFC Bournemouth, the club have not lost at home since late November and only have two teams in the top half of the table still to play at home (Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich City).

Away from The New York Stadium it is a different story. Rotherham have won just two league games this season from 16 matches. Their victories came against teams occupying relegation zone spots in Millwall and Wigan Athletic.

The club have recorded three clean sheets on the road so far but are currently on a run of six matches without one – conceding 11 goals in the process. In addition to their defensive attempts, the club have failed to score in 44% of their away games.

Manager Steve Evans used the January transfer window to strengthen his squad on a short-term basis, signing six players on loan until the end of the season.

These include Crystal Palace defensive duo Zeki Fryers and Jack Hunt and striker Conor Sammon (from Derby).

Leaving the club was Alex Revell, who had managed four Championship goals before moving to Cardiff for an undisclosed fee.

Prior to his departure Revell was the club’s top scorer, although his total has since been matched by Matt Derbyshire.

Watford ran out 2-0 winners the last time the two sides met, with late goals from Lloyd Dyer and Gianni Munari sealing the points for The Hornets.

Rotherham have won away against their midweek opposition just once in their history; recording a 2-1 victory in 2002/03 First Division.

Rotherham United starting XI vs Wolverhampton Wanderers (21/2/15): Collin; Richardson, Broadfoot, Arnason, Fryers; Smallwood, Green, Milsom, Hammill; Derbyshire, Ward.
