Millwall left it late to capitalise on Charlton Athletic’s numerical disadvantage on Good Friday, battling back from a 1-0 deficit to win 2-1 thanks to 79th and 87th-minute goals from Magaye Gueye and Jos Hoovield at The Den.

With six games left on their schedule, it will take only an excellent run of form for Millwall to stay in the division, as the Lions currently trail 21st-placed Rotherham United by seven points – with three of the top six still to play.

Indeed, victory over the Addicks ended a run of 12 league matches without a home win for the Lions, a run which dated back to October 25.

Despite their precarious position, Millwall supporters head into their final six games with a renewed sense of optimism after going three games unbeaten – their best run since October.

Since the sacking of Ian Holloway and subsequent appointment of interim boss Neil Harris, the Lions have recorded one win, two draws and a defeat; including an impressive 2-2 tie away to Brentford.

However, it is important to note whilst the club have not lost in three matches, the victory over Charlton was their first win in nine. The south Londoners have garnered just five points from their last eight games – only Blackpool have a poorer record.

Interestingly, Millwall’s home and away records are symmetrical in terms of results; with four wins, six draws and ten defeats from 20 games.

Their home form this season, typified by their six-month wait for a victory, is one of the worst in the division with only Wigan Athletic managing fewer points in front of their own support. Furthermore, they are late starters at The Den, scoring only four first-half goals there all season, compared to the 16 managed in the second half.

When Watford hosted the Lions earlier in the season, goals from Matej Vydra, Dániel Tozser and Gianni Munari eased the Hornets to a 3-1 win, despite Millwall taking the lead via Martyn Woolford.

The Lions have struggled against the top clubs in the Championship and have failed to beat any of the top eight (four draws, six defeats), conceding 26 goals in the process.

Millwall have won just once against Watford since 2006, with a Shaun Batt winner in April 2013 sealing the Lions’ last win against the Hornets.

Millwall starting XI vs Charlton Athletic (3/4/15): Forde; Cummings, Nelson, Hoovield, Harding; Upson, Williams, Abdou, Woolford; Gregory, O’Brien.
