Hornets midfielder Almen Abdi is fit to start Saturday’s Championship clash with Millwall but Craig Cathcart is a doubt with a calf problem.

Abdi returned to Watford’s match-day squad against Middlesbrough on Monday after three weeks out with a hamstring injury.

The Swiss maestro was named among the substitutes but wasn’t used by Slavisa Jokanovic.

The Hornets head coach was asked yesterday (Thursday) if Abdi was fit to start. He said: “Abdi will be at a better level now than he was before the Middlesbrough match.

“We have three games in a week and I expect Abdi will be ready to participate and help us.

“I will assess him and the rest of my team. I haven’t decided which players I will use to start the game.

“I am more interested to see who will finish that game. A match is a long trip. During this trip I will need all the players.

“So I will not only use 11 players and I expect I will have good weapons on the bench.

“Abdi has started many times and has started from the bench many times. He is a very important guy for us but there are many players who are important in our squad.”

Cathcart limped off during Watford’s 2-0 victory over Boro and his fitness will be assessed ahead of the contest.

Fernando Forestieri will miss tomorrow's match due to a knee injury but the forward is expected back in first-team training next week.

Sean Murray and Joel Ekstrand remain long-term absentees as they recover from knee ligament injuries.

As of this afternoon, there were only 200 away tickets available for the clash at The Den.

The Hornets fans are again set to travel in large numbers and Jokanovic says their support has a positive effect on his side.

“We found a different atmosphere (against Middlesbrough) and it is easier to play with that atmosphere,” he said.

“I am 100 per cent sure we will have the same support against Millwall and Nottingham Forest too.

“We will try and repeat our performance (from against Middlesbrough) in the next games. The supporters don’t need to improve. If they can repeat that would be amazing for us.”
