A home defeat to Huddersfield Town last weekend put Nottingham Forest’s slim hopes of a play-off place to bed, with the club now 13 points adrift of eighth place with four games to go.

A lone goal from midfielder Sean Scannell was sufficient for the Terriers to pick up the three points, as well as extending Forest’s run of games without a victory to four; their longest wait for a win since manager Dougie Freedman took over in February.

With ninth in the table being their highest achievable position, Forest will now be wary of those below them, namely Blackburn Rovers and Charlton Athletic, who will look to capitalise on a poor run of form that has seen them take eight points from their last eight games.

Whilst Nottingham Forest have lost in their last two appearances at City Ground (to Wolverhampton Wanderers and Huddersfield), the club boast an impressive set of results against the division’s top clubs, with no losses against any of the top six at home.

In addition, their meetings at home with clubs in the top four have all resulted in 2-1 victories heading into Watford’s visit to Nottinghamshire.

Despite impressive scalps against teams at the top end of the table, a lack of wins over teams around them (none against any side currently placed 7th-16th) means that Forest’s home form is the 12th best in the division, with the likes of Bolton Wanderers and Birmingham City enjoying a more successful home campaign over the course of the season.

A key feature of Nottingham Forest’s play this year has been their ability to strike late on in matches, with 38 of their goals coming in the last 30 minutes of games, compared to the 27 scored in the opening 60.

This should make for an interesting meeting with the Hornets, who have only conceded eight in that time period away from home.

When Forest travelled to Watford earlier in the season, the two sides played out an entertaining 2-2 draw, with goals from Odion Ighalo and Matej Vydra cancelling out a Michail Antonio brace.

Antonio has gone on to extend his tally of league goals to 12, although the forward has netted just three times in the last five months.

Forest’s top scorer his season remains Britt Assombalonga (15), despite not playing since February due to a knee injury that could seem him ruled out for up to a year.

Nottingham Forest starting XI vs Huddersfield Town (11/4/15): Darlow; Lichaj, Hobbs, Wilson, Fox; Mancienne, Burke, Lansbury, Vaughan, Antonio, Akpom (4-1-4-1).
