Slavisa Jokanovic says he is not close to signing a new contract with Watford but stresses his “first choice” is to remain with the Hornets.

The Golden Boys’ head coach’s current deal at Vicarage Road expires this summer but we understand Watford have offered the Serbian a new contract on improved terms.

Jokanovic, who guided the Hornets to promotion to the Premier League, has stated on several occasions he would like to stay with the Golden Boys.

That seemingly remains the case, however, the former Chelsea midfielder has revealed contract negotiations are yet to be completed.

"We are not close but my first choice is to stay at Watford and I hope we reach an agreement soon," Jokanovic told The Sun.

With Jokanovic’s future with the Hornets in doubt, Sunderland, Newcastle United and Leeds United have all been linked with moves for the Golden Boys boss.
