Watford are understood to be closing in on the signing of Jose Holebas after agreeing terms with the Roma defender.

The 30-year-old made 34 appearances for the Giallorossi last season following a £710,000 move from Olympiacos last summer.

However, despite a solid first campaign in Serie A, Roma are willing to let the Greece international depart the Stadio Olimpico and the Hornets look his likely destination.

According to reports in Italy, Holebas and Watford have shaken hands on a two-year contract but the Golden Boys must now come to an agreement with Roma.

The Italian club are believed to be willing to accept a £1.4million offer for the left-back.
