Hornets goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes says he has heard “very good things” about new Watford boss Quique Sanchez Flores.

The Spaniard was appointed head coach at Vicarage Road earlier in the summer after the man who led the Golden Boys into the Premier League, Slavisa Jokanovic, left the club after failing to agree a new contract.

The 50-year-old, who has previously coached at the likes of Atletico Madrid and Portuguese club Benfica, is charged with keeping the Hornets in the Premier League this season.

Gomes has played in the top flight with Tottenham Hotspur and has been impressed with Watford’s new head coach.

“I have met him (Flores) and he seems a very good person,” Gomes told Sky Sports. “I have also heard about him from Luisao at Benfica. He worked with him there and said some very good things [about Flores].”

Brazilian stopper Gomes signed a new three-year contract with the Hornets this summer after an impressive first campaign at Vicarage Road.

While he turned 34 in February, Gomes believes he is improving every day and says he still has more to show the Watford faithful.

He said: “I was able to help Watford get promoted last season, which was my target when I signed. But I have many things still to show and I believe I am getting better every day.”
