New Hornets head coach Quique Sanchez Flores insists he is not concerned about the lifespan of his predecessors after succeeding Slavisa Jokanovic and revealed he has only heard good things about the club from fellow Spaniard Oscar Garcia.

Flores, who addressed the media at Vicarage Road for the first time this afternoon after being appointed earlier this month, was asked whether he had any worries about taking a job which has been inhabited by four others in just 12 months.

It is a figure which is misrepresentative on the basis that of the four who took charge of the Golden Boys last term, only Billy McKinlay was sacked. Beppe Sannino quit, Garcia resigned due to ill health and Jokanovic left after his contract expired.

However, the Spaniard was quick to deny it had been a consideration in his decision to take up the reigns in WD18 – nine months after Jokanovic became the club’s fourth boss of the 2013/14 campaign.

He said: “Sometimes this [managerial changes] happens. This is not my experience as a coach. I have been training teams for 12 years and only one time I have left before the end of the season.

“You always want to achieve your target, this is my experience as a coach. But sometimes it [managerial changes] happens at a club and you don’t know why; there are different, complicated, situations.

“Sometimes it is the decision of the coach, sometimes it is the decision of the owner,” he added.

Flores also revealed he received a glowing reference about the club from Garcia, the Hornets’ second head coach of last season.

“I was in communication with Oscar (Garcia),” he said. “He explained everything and spoke really well about Watford. So my impression of Watford is good.”
