Quique Sanchez Flores says he expects Roma defender Jose Holebas to join up with Watford in the coming days after his transfer was announced on Friday.

The Hornets confirmed the signing of the full-back last Friday but the defender then claimed he had not agreed a contract with the Golden Boys.

Speaking to gazzetta.gr, Holebas, 31, added he had not been consulted over a move away from Roma.

"They arranged my transfer without asking me," he said. "I haven’t signed anything yet, I have to see the contract first. I don’t know why this has happened, I know that both Roma and Watford announced my transfer, but they’d have to talk to my representatives first.

"I never said I wanted to leave Roma. I’ll sign after first agreeing to the terms of the contract.

"I can’t understand what’s happened, I came back from my holiday in Dubai, and everyone started telling me my transfer had been officially announced.

"I’m in Germany right now, how could I sign a contract?"

Watford declined to comment on the alleged claims by Holebas, however, the defender is expected to link up with his new teammates before the Hornets leave for their pre-season trip to Germany on Monday.

Hornets head coach Quique Sanchez Flores said when asked about Holebas on Wednesday: "He is not training with us yet but he is coming in the next two or three days," stated Flores. "He has a situation to solve in Roma. I imagine he will train with us in the next couple of days."

Roma claim Holebas has joined the Golden Boys for a fee of £1.6 million, with a further £330,000 payable dependent on certain criteria being met.
