Watford wing-back Miguel Layun helped Mexico get their Gold Cup campaign off to a winning start as El Tri thumped Cuba 6-0 in the early hours of this morning.
Layun played the full match for his country who took the lead in the 17th minute through Oribe Peralta.
Former Arsenal forward Carlos Vela doubled the advantage before Peralta and Andres Guardado made it 4-0 before the half time interval.
Peralta completed his hat-trick just after the hour mark and the victory was rounded off when ex-Tottenham Hotspur attacker Giovani Dos Santos struck.
It was a comprehensive victory for Mexico over a Cuba side who could only name five substitutes after six members of their squad, along with coach Raul Gonzalez, were unable to obtain visas to enter tournament hosts the USA.
