Watford head coach Quique Sanchez Flores insists he is not interested in the names of potential recruits, rather their quality

The Spaniard has spent the last six days in Germany with the Golden Boys players as they continue their build-up for the forthcoming Premier League campaign.

During that time right-back Allan Nyom has signed from Udinese while Watford are understood to be hopeful of completing moves for Feyenoord midfielder Lex Immer and AZ Alkmaar winger Steven Berguis.

Flores was asked this morning if Watford were closing in on deals for the Dutch duo and, as usual, didn’t discuss specific targets.

However, he explained what he hoped any new additions would bring to his side “The name of the player is important but it isn’t the most important thing,” he said from the Hornets’ training base in Marienfeld.

“To play our football we need players who have a relationship with the ball. It is important to have those players and we are trying to find those players.

“The players who can receive the ball, can turn with the ball and can give service to the strikers. For me the most important thing is the characteristics.”

While Flores and his squad are out in Germany, Hornets owner Gino Pozzo continues to travel Europe as he attempts to bolster the Golden Boys squad .

Watford’s head coach says he is constant communication with Pozzo but stresses he can veto a signing if he wishes.

He explained: “Mr Pozzo works very hard for Watford. He is very strict and knows perfectly what he wants. He has experience in this area so for me it is perfect.

“One of the most important things for me when I arrived in England is that the staff are very organised.

“I like organisation. Watford have a small structure but have very high organisation and that is amazing for me.”

He continued: “[When we have the chance to sign a player] it’s not a case of me saying to him (Pozzo): ‘You want him to sign? Ok, sign him.’

“No, I want to watch the player last year, I want to see their possibilities for the project and I want to know what kind of player we may sign for the future.

“Then we decide. If we agree to the first part then maybe we can discuss further. It is just common sense.”
