Miguel Layun is set to complete a season-long loan move to FC Porto before the European transfer window closes this evening, the Watford Observer understands.

We have been told this afternoon by a trusted source that reports linking the Mexican international with a move to the current Primeira Liga leaders are correct.

Furthermore, Portugese newspaper O Jogo is reporting Layun flew into Sa Carneiro Airport earlier this afternoon to meet with Porto officials and have a medical.

Layun will become the third player to leave Watford in the past three days following the departures of Daniel Pudil and Fernando Forestieri to Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend.

The Hornets have been attempting to trim the number of non-homegrown players at the club before they submit their 25-man Premier League squad this week. Only 17 are permitted.

However, the decision to allow to Layun to leave would represent something of a surprise given he has been in every one of Quique Sanchez Flores’ matchday squads this season.

He has made four appearances in all competitions to date and scored his first Hornets’ goal in the opening-day 2-2 draw at Everton.

The move would also cause more upheaval for Layun and his family after his wife and new-born son Mateo only joined him in England this summer.

“I am really enjoying having them here,” the player told the Watford Observer earlier this month.

“It is not about football because the most important thing for me is my son and my wife. Having them with me gives me belief inside; I can come here and train with my mind on the pitch and that is very important because it gives me focus on the pitch.”

He added: “Everything is perfect. My wife, son and I are more comfortable now. We know when to go to the supermarket, when to go to town, things we did not know before. Now we are more used to the things you have here and that is why we are enjoying ourselves more.”

Following his arrival from Club America in January, Layun has made a total of 21 appearances in all competitions.
